Hi, is anyone using Windows 2000 and Poser4. Im going to upgrade but under Curious Labs it doesnt state that it is compatiable with Win. 2000 Thanks Dave

Works for me just dandy. Zero errors or problems.

In my experience, Poser4 runs GREAT under Win2000; that's what I'm running it under now (NTFS partition).

Good you're asking, since I do have a problem running Poser on W2k, although I don't know, whether the issue is related to W2k. I was about to send a question to Curious Labs, but might post it here as well. Here it goes: "Upon starting up Poser 4.03, after waiting for about 2 Minutes, I am getting the following error messages: Error in Plugin FF3DMF.ARP Error in Plugin FF3DS.ARP Error in Plugin ffdxf.ARP Error in Plugin FFOBJ.ARP Error in Plugin FFText.ARP I have re-installed Poser from the CD, updated with the 4.03-patch, but the problem did not dissapear. Given the plugin errors, I cannot load 3DS-, OBJ-, DXF- or DMF-files. Poser greys out all sorts of menu-items and becomes unusable until I restart the application. My system setup is as follows: Harddisk #1 (40GB): C: --> Windows 98 on a 4GB partition, reserved for video editing, containing Fast DV-Master and Ulead Mediastudio Pro 6.0 D: --> Windows 2000 on the remaining 36GB for all other applications, including Poser on: D:Poserposer.exe, and all associated files (Runtime, etc) Harddisk#2 (40GB) E: reserved for video and sound files (.avi; .wav; and the like) Any idea on how to get rid of the plugin-errors and how to get them working again?"

Thank you, Steve, that might be it. I used to have Painter 3D installed but canned it, since it's not worth the time. Unfortunately, there is no Painter 3D-uninstall on the CD, so I just threw the whole caboodle in the bin just like that. But now the jackpot question: How do I know that I have trashy .ARP's left on the machine, and how do I get rid of them? regards D.

Wow... I think painter 3d is one of the best programs i have. I prefer it over Photoshop 6 (which I use all the time.) I wish they made a new vertion of it though... -Gabe-

really? - Now that's funny, you are the first one I've heard saying it. I have tried hard, but never figured out how that software really works, even after going through the book. It was always doing funny things and never what I wanted it to do, so I consequently got annoyed and trashed it (not very patient me, you know, things better work right away or I blow a fuse). Now I wonder, whether I should give it another go, but then again, it might not do my keyboard any good, let alone my mouse... Are there any tricks to civilise that software and make it listen to its master(<- hehehe) that I'm not aware of? D.

Dewo: Well Ok, I understand what your saying it kinda works diferant than most other Paint based programs. But you have to remember that it was never suposed to be a photo editing program, insted it was suposted to be a "Digital Painting" program. I first started with Fractal design Skecher in the hay day of the 486's and that was an incredible program... Really it was. It broke ground that no others could at te time. Then Fractal designs released "painter" (which is now a Corel product and I think it's up to R6) and again it broke new ground and made Photoshop 2 look like garbage. I fell in love and really learned the intricasies. I still use and prifer, painter 5 and Painter 3d over Photoshop 6, because it really has an astounding level of versitility, it just takes quite a bit of playing to master it, but once you do It becomes an incredible tool. The ability to paint right on to 3D models is also somthing that it really excells in. I know other programs do the same, but in my expiriance not to the level of Painter 3D. I really recomend that you try it again... I think you may be surprised as to how good it can be if you really try to explore it's capabilities. Despite how bad the manual is, it still offers alot that many of the best other programs Don't have the capabilities for. Just look at my work and I think you'll see. Alot of the textures are indebted to that really under rated little program. -Gabe-

By the way, If you can get a Painter 6 manual, it is alot better than the one Fractal design released. All of a suden things will start to make sence... -Gabe-

This is just to let people know that Steve Cooper's advice to check for old *.arp-files did the trick; thanks a lot, Steve. I found them, deleted them and now I'm a happy poser again, on the W2k OS, which otherwise doesn't give me any problems with Poser.
