That looks like a pirated version of Carrara 6.  Be careful where you download from exactly, as in don't download.  3D World provides it on disc.  Or are you a super subscriber to 3D World?

Or did you have Carrara 6 already and Carrara 7 clobbered it?

ADDED:
Oops.  You said Mac.  Fonts have a problem with Mac & Carrara.

The solution is in the forum somewhere. You need to open the preference files somewhere and change the font that gets used for the interface (bit in a hurry now, sorry)

Go to the preferences file at /Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/DAZ 3D/Carrara 7 and opened up the Preferences.txt. Search for font in that file from Geneva to Helvetical or Arial:

If you've got issue 133, I've got a 6 page tutorial on Lighting in Carrara in there. :D

saibabameuk ( ) posted Wed, 18 August 2010 at 3:16 PM

It will take a fair time to get together with Carrara, but I must say Poser could do with the free lectures that I have seen and viewed on Carrara in the last few hours.
Thank you for pointing me to the link.
I do not have issue 117 however I will look out for issue 117.

 Hey guys,

I'm having trouble locating an issue with Carrara 7 in it.  Is it in next months issue (September) or last months issue (July)?

Thanks
Ted

MarkBremmer ( ) posted Thu, 19 August 2010 at 6:05 PM

If you are in the United States, you may not be able to get it for another couple of weeks. (Issue 133) 3D World mailed me mine since I was a contributor so I've received it ahead of the stores.

3D Artist (3Dartistonline.com) also had  C7 in their last issue (had a tutorial in that too!) so if you can track that down, you'll find it there too.

Mark

 Thanks Mark!!
I'll look that up but I'm glad that I didn't miss it yet!

I'm hoping somebody can tell us if the 3dworld 133 CD is a CD (as in 3dartist CD 017) or if it's
a DVD, and how many GB it holds.  word on the street is that it's a DVD.

California B&N bookstores still have a few 3DArtist #17 in stock.  Better run though.

Is this the Artist, or World DVD that you speak of?  I have both, and
didn't think to turn either one over.

 Ahh

"You see, He that does not look under the stone cannot find the worm?"
The publisher gave me a wrap over the knuckle for confusing the two publications.
If you go to my wonderfully written question half way up the page you will see the answer.
Or you probably have the answer reading the quote.

I want to thank everyone here on Carrara 7 Pro and what to look for.  3D World Magazine Issue 133 has arrived in Books-a-Million today.  Carrara 7 Pro takes the entire B side of the DVD, thats the side that as all the printing on and it consists of 6 parts, simply load them in turn.  Copy down the serial number because you will have to entire it the first time you run Carrara 7 Pro.  The serial number is in one of the sections on the B side of the DVD.

Works like a charm.

Oh by the way, Marks' tut on Lighting is execellent and it covers several pages.  Jan

o.k., finally got it last week.  the b-side looks like the above. c8pro comes with 30-day serial.  c7pro serial unlimited.

a-side looks like the above.  as I mentioned in a previous post, the only way I could find out what's on it was to buy the mag.  the reason is that they think more users will buy the mag if they don't know exactly what's on the disc, which is a false assumption on their part.

ShawnDriscoll ( ) posted Tue, 07 September 2010 at 4:17 PM

It's like pulling teeth trying to find out from people that have the magazine discs already what exactly is on them.

Being in Australia we've still got a few months to wait for that issue of 3D world so i got my copy of Carrara 7 on 3d artist, but the mac version comes without the 'native content pack' so no shaders or content and the landscape wizard does not work. Is there a way i can load the shaders etc from Carrara 6 pro?

MarkBremmer ( ) posted Fri, 10 September 2010 at 8:04 AM

Sure, just click the document icon on the top right corner of the browser window and drive it to the content. You may need to right click and "Open Package" on C6 application to find the content unless you installed it somewhere else. (you can duplicate it out of the c6 application if you want) I keep all mine separate from the program on another drive.

BTW, I'm told that the Mac Carrara content was to be on the subsequent issue CD - not enough room on the disc that the program came on to have a full Mac/PC version of everything.

Thanks  Mark and a great easy to follow tutorial in the mag too.   I guess the content on a subsequent issue gives me a good excuse to buy it!!!

Plutom ( ) posted Fri, 10 September 2010 at 8:54 AM

I might add that Mark did an outstanding job on his video tutorial on lighting (Ref 3DWorld magazine issue 133 (September issue).  Clear easy going instructions.  Thumbs up Mark.  Jan

I live in the sleepy lil' old backwater of Smithfield Adelaide South Aust, got 3D world mag at Munno Para newsagent over a week ago! had 3Dartist on order but this came first so I cancelled and got it instead.
love C7pro, 3D paint fun, but I'm still crap at it, heaps to learn, but
it is cool! no more seams on my crappy models!!
renders quicker than 6pro too as it is LargeAddressAware so I didn't waste that 4gb upgrade on my crummy cheap Dell laptop.
