Subject: Anybody use PzDB with Vue?

Jcleaver ( ) posted Sun, 19 September 2010 at 3:45 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 8:47 AM

I use PzDB, a 3D content cataloging program with Poser at the moment.  It says it supports Vue as well, and was wondering if anybody used it for this.  The reason i ask is that when I tried to catalog my Vue content, i get a generic icon that says Vue, and not a preview of the item like i do for Poser content.  This makes it's use for Vue content rather pointless, and was hoping someone could point me to a fix.

Their site says it references the .vue scene file format and the .vob object file format, but Vue has many more formats, like atm, veg, prt, etc, maybe that's why you're getting a generic Vue icon?

I could understand it if it didn't show all filetypes, but i get this for all.  I'll have to do some further research, and see what is happening.  I'll even try to make a new catalog and see if maybe it just needs time to build the icons.

Nope, doesn't show anything except the generic icons.  It also claims to work with Carrara files, however it is just the generic icons also.  It's too bad, PzDB is quite good at what it does with Poser files, but almost useless for others it "supports".

At least P3DO works well with both Poser and Vue.

And Carrara, and Daz Studio,... !

P3dO is showing Carrara thumbnails and Carrara paths like it does for Poser. The only software around to show Carrara thumbs.

For Vue I didn't update since Vue 6 so it is kinda outdated.

I'm guessing it won't work with Vue since even Vue 8 doesn't recognize Vue 8.5 files.

If you are talking about P3DO, it works fine with 8.5 files.  PzDB doesn't with any version of Vue.  At least there isn't any icon other than a generic one.

Hi guys,

Sorry we just found this. Renderosity Forums aren't usually where we provide product support.

from the new PzDB 1.2 FAQ:

Q: Why do some of my items have thumbnail images and others don’t?

A: PzDB is a Microsoft Access database and can display anything that Microsoft considers to be an image file.  This includes JPG’s, PNG’s, GIF’s, BMP’s etc.  In your Poser Library, every Library item has a corresponding PNG thumbnail file.  (actually some of them have RSR files, but PzDB makes PNG files out of RSR files as it indexes a Catalog)  When Bryce saves a scene file, it saves a BMP file with the same name.  PzDB uses those image files as thumbnails for the corresponding 3D content.  If there is no bitmap with the same name as the 3D file, then PzDB displays a generic document icon.

Photoshop files, as well as files from Vue, Lightwave, Modo etc.  all currently display as generic icon files, unless there is a PNG file with a corresponding name in the same folder. We are looking into having PzDB be able to extract thumbnail images from these other file formats in the future.

-- So you could make PNG files for those vue file if you wanted.

Thanks.  To be honest, cataloging Vue files is currently useless unless you have a very small inventory, at which point it isn't necessary.  Although I could make a png file for each item, there are approximately 4000 items to do.  I don't have the patience to do that.

Hopefully PzDB will be able to do so in the future.  In the meantime, I will use it for Poser and Daz files only.  It does work great for hat.
