Subject: Back after long time - where I put my runtimes in Poser 7

aniela ( ) posted Tue, 21 September 2010 at 3:15 PM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 6:03 PM

Hello there!
I was away long time, changes a lot on website. I did a search on forums but I didnt find clues to my problem.

I have a new puter running windows 7 and Poser 7 installed on it. I moved all my runtimes folders (victoria, aiko, cartoons, etc) under poser 7 runtime folder. I dont know what I am doing wrong because they dont show when I open Poser 7. I remember I had once all my runtimes external but it was so hard to find textures that I abandoned it for that (maybe I am very lazzy.. I dont think so, I just hate to stop to create because I have do a search to go ahead).

I am sure someone can help me. Thank you very much in advance

Your problem is due to the UAC of Windows 7.
You have two options, put your runtime somewhere outside the main "programme files" folder under "C" or switch your UAC off and leave them where they are..

Warning: Switching UAC off is only advisable for peeps that know what they're doing around pc's..

Online Now!

In afreement with thefixer.  There have been numerous posts concerning this situation in both Vista and Windows 7.  I am surprised that you weren't able to find anything in a search.

Thefixer!!!  Good to see you again.:-)

As I have no clue what is UAC, I think is better let them out C. In this way, if I am not wrong, I need another program to read them, right? And be patient to search textures when asked for...

Not sure what you mean by "needing another programme to read them"..
To read what??
Sorry I don't follow that bit.. can you explain what you mean please??

Sorry if this thread came in many times. I was doing a search right now, but I still didnt find what I am looking for.

Too many time away Poser. In fact,  I dont know anymore how see and use my stuff as external runtimes. The only thing I remember is I spent many time searching textures when at Poser 5 (my last experience).

You shouldn't need to search for textures if your runtimes are set up properly.
Personally I use only one runtime which is set up with "sub-folders", I find this easier than multiple runtimes and it doesn't give me any issues with finding textures.
Others prefer the multiple route, it's a persoanl preference thing and what works best for you.

er.. where I can find how set up properly my runtimes? Have some tutorial I can have?. Right now they are categorized by characters (Victoria, Aiko, Architecture, etc). In fact I think is not a simple thing I can have from here. Also, your time is precious too.:-)

There are some tutes on here for setting up multiple runtimes, I think "Acadia" did a thread somewhere, do a search for her, it should bring it up..

Sub folders are in my view easy to set up, you basically leave your top level folders as they are and make your own sub folders inside them to what you want.
For example, in your "Character" main folder, you might have sub folders for "people", "clothes", "buildings" etc..
Then inside the "clothes" sub folder you would have folders for V3, V4, M4 etc..

Navigating the sub folders is also easy by using the small black triangle at the side of your main folders in the GUI.
