Subject: Poser 8 G4 will not open any ideas.

Hi guys
resurrected my old G4 and loaded poser 6 no problems, yes I have the original box and what joy to have the curious lab ref manual , then tried poser 8 , ouch

Will not open any ideas?:)

I will use the old G4 for rendering if I can get it to work with Poser8
and keep the animating on my laptop.

Poser8  8.0.3.11793
Mac Osx 10.4.6 Running Tiger Processor Dual 1.25 GHz Power PC G4
Memory 2GB DDR SDRAM.

Thank you all.

I don't have a Mac, but just a thought-you might try installing the Service Release:

poser.smithmicro.com/updates.html

Oh! One other thing-Poser won't start if another copy with the same serial number is running on your local network at that time, so make sure that it's not running on your laptop...

 WandW
Thank you for coming back so quickly, sadly I have covered both those points still crack the problem.
I have noticed that my poser 8 application has 205MB on my laptop and only 195.5MB on G4?

OS incapatibility?

 HI big H
Do you think I am wasting my time ?
I will chuck it if so.
Life is to short to spend time trying to sort out software.

Earlier MACs were notorious for not being backwards compatible.  This might be the problem you are encountering.

Here are the system requirements from SM-it seems likeyours is in the ball park:

For Macintosh: Mac® OS X 10.4 or 10.5; 700 MHz G4 processor (Intel® Core™ Duo or 1 GHz G4 or faster recommended).

For Macintosh and Windows: 512 MB RAM (1 GB or more recommended); OpenGL enabled graphics card or chipset recommended (recent NVIDIA® GeForce® and ATI Radeon™ preferred); 24-bit color display, 1024x768 minimum resolution; 2 GB free hard disk space (4 GB recommended); Internet connection required for Content Paradise™; Adobe® Flash® Player 9; DVD-ROM drive (physical product only).

Could it be a graphics card issue?

I would open a ticket at SM...
