Subject: Is it possible to render a short video animation on a transparent background?

hi all, i want to try and do a small video animation of a ufo overlayed on my own video footage, is this possible? im using poser 7. look forward to any advice.

 The easiest way would be to import your video footage into Poser and render the 3d saucer over the footage.

Or, since Poser tif's generate an alpha channel your can composite the single frame renders in your video editor.

How would this alpha channel work? will it have a transparent background that i can just put the render over my footage?

Hi yes it would.
Poser can render a movie with an alpha Channel
like pictured here

i cant seem to find that screen you have above with the settings in it? were do i find it? ( compression settings )

Hi I  am on a mac (obviously) but I assume on the PC you should be able choose a movie codec that renders with an alpha Channel
or render to series of image file like PNG or TARGA which will have an alpha channel.

The best way I know of is ,to export as .png files
Then import to Final Cut Express make a bin add a sequence import .png file make another sequence drop the first sequence int the second and you have a transparent .move add any background you like or foreground export you have your requirements!
