Subject: How to export obj. from Bryce to other programs?

Hey guys, I know I am in a good place here... I am in a beginning stages of my Bryce knowledge and this question might be really easy for you. I would like to export an object that I made in Bryce into Poser or any other program. The option on my menu is not clickable... What should I do? Please, help!

You can only export terrains from Bryce. Sorry, hopefully they will come up with something that will take care of that. Alot of people would love that ability. You can't do it in Bryce 5 either. Sharen:)

Hi, To my knowledge if the model was made in Bryce with primitives you can't export it (This is why it is grayed out on you.) The only things you can export are Terrians and Lattices that are Bryce made. (I know this sucks) To export an object that you imported (3DS, DXF etc..) Just select the object and click on the "E" (edit mesh). Next don't select the any of the smoothing options use CTRL+D you should get a dialog box that will let you export to another format. Hope this helps. Also there are other threads that cover this if my directions were not clear.

tonygentry - are you serious, that is all you have to do, is select, click e for edit smoothing then push CTRL +D and you can export it....I can't wait to try that....what formats can you export as? And can I create a form like from a metaball and do the same thing? Sharen:)

Thanks tonygentry, That's really too bad. I will just have to use it within the Bryce program... hope they fix that. I know you can export objects made from lattice... You are great with such quick responses!

SAMS3D - no, you can only export an object that was originally in another format and imported into Bryce, and as far as I know, you have to export it in the same format it was imported in - I've heard that Bryce crashes if you try to use it to convert to a different format. So - if you import a *.3Ds object, you can later export it as a *.3Ds, but not as an *.obj. And you can't export anything originally created in Bryce except a terrain or lattice.

actually, with some meshes, you can use Bryce to convert them. It does crash sometimes, but not all the time. it varies betweeen meshes. this, and some other great tricks and tips are in the Bryce Forum FAQ at the top of the page. Ken

There may be one convoluted way to do this (export meshes made with Bryce primitives)--mind you I haven't tried it, but it should work. There are several programs, such as PhotoModeler (Lite version is free demo) that will allow one to make 3D meshes out of a series of photographs of an object taken from several different angles. Suppose you used such a program, but instead of photos, you use several different renderings of your object in Bryce--each rendering from a different angle. I don't know why this wouldn't work. Sorry no link for PhotoModeler. Somewhere in the Renderosity forums there are several threads discussing these sorts of programs (most are quite expensive; some are easier to use than PhotoModeler). If my explanation isn't clear, let me know and I'll try to be more precise.
