You absolutely can influence your dreams. :) Binaural audio can work, like hemi-sync.
But if you -really- want to expore the dreamworld, learn how to have lucid dreams. I have lucid dreams regularily, and they are quite a source for inspiration, and a very fascinating tool for exploring deeper parts of yourself.
Google for lucid dreaming, lucidity institute (best research on lucid dreaming in the west), or tibetan dream yoga if you are more of an eastern mindset.
Yes, lol, I'm a meditation nut. :)
Indeed you can. I find I have the most satisfying dreams when listening to recordings of people being skinned, dipped in acid and impaled on spikes.

Nah mate, my family tree encompasses France, Italy, all the Celts, Germany, Denmark, Africa and several others but not, as far as I know, Romania.
I'm just your average, every day fun loving sadist. Hehe.

Quote - It seems to have happened to me often. There's an alarm in real life, and in my dream something related to that happens. For example today i dream about an annoying alarm ring that didn't stop and we had to take out the batteries.
well, in real life the alarm was sounding, so it seems it influenced my dream.
I wonder if i could shape my dream by putting on a CD about any theme i want to dream about.
You can influence your dreams by many methods. Eating before you sleep will produce fantastic results! Especially if it's gassy producing foods like salads or lot's of fluids like water. You can also play music or TV shows to influence what your mind produces while you're asleep. There's also a method called "Focused Dreaming" where you concentrate on a single idea over and over again as you fall asleep so that that is the last thought in your concience before the subconcience takes the helm.
Yup, old Ebenezer had it right.
"You may be an undigested bit of beef, a blot of mustard, a crumb of cheese, a fragment of an underdone potato. There's more of gravy than of grave about you, whatever you are!"

Yes. As long as the sound is not too loud to wake you from la-la land. Otherwise, you don't dream, which can cause other problems. The above works great when you have a fever.

lol you wacko!
i can't have the tv or anything on when i sleep or the stories enter my dreams. i hate that.
i am working on lucid dreaming though. it's cool the occasions when it just happens i'd love to be able to deliberately trigger it
go that way really fast.

Here's an immediate example of sensory inputs influencing dreams.
Before going to bed last night I printed some (ahem) renders with a new cartridge made
in China. The ink had a penetrating solvent-like smell that I couldn't quite identify.
During the night I had a long well-plotted dream, filled with original incidents and
characters, about going back to work in a Modern Office where every little action
required days of filling out forms. The final incident, the one that woke me up,
went like this:
I had replaced a couple of bypass capacitors in a two-way radio that was used by
one of our delivery men. The supervisor came to me and showed me how I'd
screwed up the whole thing by not filling out the proper ADA forms first. Why ADA?
Because the delivery man who was going to use the radio had been diagnosed
with Obsessive-Compulsive Syndrome so he could get off work often to visit
his psychiatrist, who was of course paid by our office. The supervisor showed me
the correct triplicate forms, where every action needed the shrink's signature, and
told me to start over, first making an appointment with the psychiatrist so I could
get the correct signatures from him.
Where's the sensory input? All the forms were triplicate NCR paper.
Aha! So that's what the solvent smelled like!

Me too! I just bought the "Best of Hell 2010" from my local "Demons are Us" outlet store- the smell of sulfur is sometimes off putting- and from time Angels with flaming swords engage in battle with the local staff demons- but Mall security usually straightens them out fairly quickly!
A word of advice- be very careful when they try and sell EXTENDED WARRANTIES! Do not sign without reading CAREFULLY- trading your soul for a 2 year no questions warranty is a HELL of a price. You should at least argue them up to 5 years for that! :-)

Yes- I have a "sounds of the sea" sleep soother next to my bed- and at first I did have more dreams featuring the ocean. I also sometimes incorporate sounds from outside into my dreams.

I used to engage in lucid dreaming- an interesting experience! Although sometimes I was aware and still had "sleep paralysis"- so I would concentrate on moving a finger-once I had done that I was able to get up. I think the sleep paralysis put me off lucid dreaming. Perhaps I should try again!
