the script:
Quote - the script: - weinberg writes poser on apple ][
- people have discussions about it via e-mail, bulletin boards and usenet
- willow and grey create poserforum and they don't allow porno
- legume creates poser usenet group, where there is alotta porno, freebies and some redistrib of zygote/daz content off-group
- jack buys poserforum/renderosity and marketplace begins here
- zygote splits into zygote (high-brow 3d) and daz (poser girls)
- tim buys poserforum/renderosity ; marketplace expands
- users revolt against no-porno policy and split off to form the porno sites
- users revolt against the no-nude-fairy policy and migrate to daz and other sites
- various battles for supremacy in the OT forum, the bar or tavern or whatever they called it
- management gets rid of all the OT forums due to the ill-mannered nature of the users
- 'rosity settles down and evolves as bondware evolves
- tim sells 'rosity and becomes a billionaire on paper
- the end
Needs a bit of work, pity Ironbear isn't around anymore, he'd have been able to come up with a superb script for this.
You missed the "Pink Pony" / AotY scandal off the list.
The soundtrack could consist of C&W hits in view of Rendo being located near Nashville.
Ya know, there was some website that had a collaborative project like this. It was a star wars fan film. Made entirely of different, and completely unique forms of art. Some 2D animation, some 3D animation, many flash. I thought that was an awesome project, and I think if a group of people here were to open a similar kind of project that anyone could contribute to, it would allow all of us to expand in a completely different direction with what abilities we have.
I would be 100% in support of it. Not of course a star wars themed project, but whatever the theme agreed upon will be. Could be something the admins sponsor.
"Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence."
I can see a big boom, a flash of light and a 1080p animation of Earth as some strange cosmic fire rips the planet into small little pieces. At least that's what my brains thinks I could do.
Big booms & big boobs.... Twin double B's...
So, who would edit such a film? Would there be a time limit per clip? There should be some more general information on who, and what those who's can contribute.
"Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence."
Yeah, eventually it will become more structured as more and more people want to participate.
If we're going for tops quality, music is the only thing I can contribute.
Given alot of the renders here at the site, I see no reason to aim lower than tops.
There has got to be someone here good at editing.
We'll also have to have story boarders, screenplay writers / editors and such.
But it all begins with the right story.
I edit videos in 1080p and in 2048 by 1152. Most that I ever have been uploaded to YouTube and then later taken down. I have one up at the moment that is still there. I don't know about the rest of you, but I assume having a fast and reliable connection would be vital to finishing this kind of project. I get around 5 to 6 MB a second when downloading something off FireFox or IE. Uploading say to youtube takes just a few minutes with files averaging 1 gigabyte.
So uploading and downloading video and image are no problem for me. Some of my AVI's though can come out to be gigabytes. My last AVI finished at 32.8 gigs.
Ya know... there really should be a Renderosity YouTube channel. There really should be. I'm pretty sure there are a lot of people here who make videos with their work. I do. Plus YouTube allows 1080p viewing. It also allows an "Original" viewing format which will play videos at higher than 1080p resolution.

I'll PM you the link Hollivals.
There is a Tube channel for some 2D animation community. Wish I had a bookmark for it. I'll have to google it. But what I believe they do is allow people to submit videos to an individual who runs their YouTube and would upload it from there. Would really take the community thing here at Renderosity to a whole new level.
Plus if Renderosity were to obtain a large amount of subscribers they would qualify for partnership which comes with more than a few benefits including: Ad revenue, longer than 15 minute videos (great for which this film subject would be applied to).
Plus Renderosity could expand it's user tutorials. A channel wouldn't have to be limited to just particulars.

Great idea about a YouTube channel for Renderosity.
I do miss seeing some animations here.

We're two in this team now, but need more.
I've read Chas' story and really like it, it has some interesting twists in it.

Why don't we team up here on the site and make a film using what ever tools we have, it could be a short to begin with.
I've seen so much good work here, characters, textures, rendering, complete fantasy worlds, that I'm very confident that this community could deliver something striking if enough many people contributed to a project like that.
I can imagine this being a mixed media project, so the whole story could be split up in scenes / story points of view, some made in Flash, others in Vue and yet others in Poser, some even hand drawen etc., the only limitations are our tools.
And I'm sure that some of you are skilled writers (for the story), I can make music and sounds and wouldn't be surprised if there are more here like me.
A project like this would probably have to have the Creative Commons stamp on it, because of the number of people involved and only legally attained software of course.
Who of you are interested in the initial brainstorming process?
The first step would be to define our options.
Hope to hear from you!
