Just had my upgrade from CS3 today and been playing about with it for the last hour or so, and all I can say is what I said above.. So much better than CS3 in all sorts of ways, more stable for one thing, all the new things to do with images and I got a nifty bit of software for free with it too..

I agree also. I purchased Production Premium CS5 a couple of months ago and it is Amazing. The only problem I have is that I came from PS7 and most of my 3rd party Filters and Actions will not work in CS5. So I keep PS7 installed for just those occasions.

CS4 will have to do me for a while. I went from CS to CS4 the first week of January this year. It's just not worth the expense to upgrade with each version. What are some of the new WOW features of CS5?

For me almost everything, because I came from Photoshop 7. I do suppose one of the Biggest Draws to CS5 is that Extended is 64 bit compliant and when working with dozens of layers I don't get bogged down waiting for the RAM to clear so I can proceed. I am still exploring though!!!

As Thelby said.....the 64-bit version of PS was the biggest draw for me as well.

I just recently installed CS5 since I couldn't move my old PS over to my new computer due to the limits Adobe set and it was time to upgrade either way. But I can't figure out how to move a plug in called "Flood" over to the new version. I can't find my zip file of the original since it's been a long time ago since I got it. Reading this forum, and it looks like I might have to say goodbye to Flood, unless someone knows a trick with CS5?

Heya Fixer, What folder in cs5 should the folder Flood go into? I tried Filters but it's not showing up in CS5 when I start it up to check. 

It wouldn't just copy over, I had to reinstall it from the original zip file and re-register it..

oh well, looks like I must admit defeat. It was worth the try I suppose. Thanks for the help. 

Why not ask the vendor for the file, they should have your contact information on file and a record of your purchase I would have thought..

TBH, I don't use it much now, I do all my water effects in Vue..

For me one of the best WOW features is the "content aware fill" and also the "puppet warp", just incredible features for removing or correcting elements in your photos..

"Content-aware fill" and "puppet warp" look interesting if they really work. I'm sure a lot depends on the type of backgrounds. I think new in CS4 was the "content-aware scale". It works to some extent but not impressive. A couple of features I really like with CS4 is the "rotate view tool", the zoom of 3200% (I believe it was previously 1600%) and the flick panning. Photomerge is much improved.   

I've used the "content aware fill" already, it works great, really impressed by that...

I wasn't aware it was in CS4, I upgraded from CS3.

I haven't tried puppet warp yet, but it does look impressive, if as you say it works..

I expected more going from CS to CS4 considering the price of upgrades. I got the Standard Suite with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat 9 Pro and Bridge. I picked a month at lynda.com as my bonus. It took an extra couple of months to go through every single tutorial they had on those programs.

Content-aware fill is new to CS5. Content-aware scale was new to CS4.

   Coming from PS 7 it is all new to me except those things that are also in After Effects. AF has had the Puppet Tools for a few versions already. But that is expected being it's a compositor.

   I personally enjoy using the Clone Brush in PS CS5 because it has a preview everywhere you move the cursor and I can tell if it will match the area that I am using it on before I apply it. I am not sure if that is New to PS CS5, but it is certainly New to me.

   I am sure when I gt into the HDR and 3D parts of CS5 that is going to be interesting as well.

Does CS5 have an Image ready? I have CS4, and when I Save for Web, the four choices are still all huge. It doesn't work as good as my old Photoshop CS. Unfortunately, I have a new 64 bit system, and my old CS won't activate for some reason. ADobe also does not support it anymore, so I am out of luck.

Can I ask what you guys think of the interface - not a big fan myself.  I've only just got it so working my way around it.  I just think they could've made it more sophisticated - or is it just me!

I've been using Photoshop since version 7, I find the interface works well for me, although there are some niggly changes in this version that I find irritating, but overall I'm happy with it..

I guess what I really meant to say is its not very attractive! LOL The fonts are small and I think they could've done a little more to jazz it up.  Not the main issue I know when using CS5 - it should be all about the function but for me a little pretty goes a long way!  I am however looking forward to checking out the new features and I guess I'll get used to the grey ....

I don't know what color/s the UI has been between PS7 and CS5, but my PS7 is Grey. That's the only color I have known.

As to the UI changes I have noticed things have moved, some are not there anymore, there are so many new toys like the photo wrapper which will save me time and also as I said above my Plugins and Actions don't work in CS5. What I did find out about that is Adobe has an agreement with Plugin vendors/creators to change code enough every few versions so people like us have to purchase new Versions of the Plugins and really that makes sense cause the vendors have to eat too and I don't mind to much as long as they are not to expensive. But, that is why I have both Photoshop 7 and CS5 installed on my Vista x64 and my Windows 7 x64. What I don't have on one, I have on the other. Besides they play together nicely!!!

Yeah the plug-in filters were a prob to load.  I kept getting an error about the msvcrt.dll file being missing. In the end I loaded each filter one at a time and they work fine.  I had a huge range of filters that I had collected over time and they were in a bit of a mess.  I only chose the ones that I use the most, put them in their own folders and they seem to be fine.  Glad they are working - I would really miss them!

Why not check the "Additional Plug-Ins Folder" in Preferences > Plug-Ins in PS? That way you could install your plug-ins whereever you want once. Especially when going from one version of PS to another. You don't need to reinstall them ... just point and restart PS! You can even have any other graphic software (like Paint Shop Pro) point to that same folder.

I created a "Extra Plug-Ins" folder. Inside that folder I created sub folders for each plug-in (Alien Skin, Eye Candy, KPT etc...). I installed my plug-ins into those sub folders. I point Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro & Photo-Paint to that "Extra Plug-Ins" folder. When I went from CS to CS4 I just checked that box in Preferences and browsed to my "Extra Plug-Ins" folder and Voila! all set with no pain the butt plug-in reinstalls.

I'll have to try that, because just putting them in their own folder didn't work. So maybe having PS point to them will work from Preferences, THanks, I'll let you know what happens. I hope it works because I would really like to move 'Imagesynth and Luce' to CS5

Oh yes I did forget to mention that - I did ask Photoshop to look in my new plugins folder under preferences ->plug ins -> Additional plug ins folder.  I had to load them into the new folder one at a time because there was something in the original folder it did not like!!  I've just got a new computer so all sorts of shuffling happening.

Yes, Terragen, Vue and Carrara. It works well. You give a tiny bit of post work after Imagesynth completes it's task. at least I do a little post work, but the results are really nice. You can take a texture that is tiling on you where the seamlines are showing and make it from near seamless to completely seamless. Things such as sand, dirt, rock, tree bark work very well.

It is also good for expanding textures to cover a large area that TG, Vue or Carrara just will not tile the particular texture well. I have made some textures 15000x15000 in only few minutes using Imagesynth.

OMG that's amazing!  I've haven't used TG for AGES!!  How did you go with your filters?

I'm still using CS2. Wow, I can't believe how far behind upgrades I am. Last time I checked they were just coming out with CS3. What are the latest changes? Anything drastic? Any cool new tools? Just trying to figure out if it's time that I finally bite the bullet and get the new one too.

I’ve just upgraded to CS5 but can’t get it to print properly, it has lines through my pictures I’m trying to print out, I downloaded a utility called “Adobe Color Printer Utility” which has no colour management and my pictures print out fine.

I still have CS2 and it prints out fine as well.

Has anyone had a similar problem and a solution I hope!

i'm still waiting for the office to get me my upgrade to CS5. i had them upgrade all the other creatives in the department first and i'm the final designer to go.  oh well, that's what happens when you let the women and children go first... there's no lifeboats left!

@Rorsdor, when you say there are lines through the artwork, do you mean the colour is "banding" (...the gradients aren't blending, but show as steps of different colour...)?
i haven't heard of a printing issue specific to CS5 (but then again, i haven't been able to run it through it's paces), what type of printer are you outputting to?

...and to minimize the risk of your problem getting buried and not really answered, start a new thread and hopefully you'll get a better answer.

Thanks for the reply, I went through the adobe help desk and they were great, I think it was my printer driver, it was  to old for the all new CS5, so update your drivers!I'm now a very happy chappy as I thought it was going to be a worse problem!:)

Content aware fill is amazing. It doesn't always get it 100% right, but it usually gets some very difficult areas perfect. It's a great addition and very easy to use.

i m looking for portable version of CS5 .. any one cad guide me .. can i use all plugins or other functions in portable version?
