Subject: Problem installing C7 Pro form 3D World - Advice needed

Chrisdmd ( ) posted Wed, 15 September 2010 at 10:15 PM · edited Sat, 18 January 2025 at 12:10 AM

 Hi all,
I got the new 3D World issue with Carrara 7 Pro and when I try to install on my MacBook Pro v10.5.8 it says

The directory
/Applications
is not writable by the current user

I have no idea how to (and it won't let me) install the software after I get this message. I assume that my MAC does not approve the disc as an installation source but then again you know what they say about when you "assume"..lol

Can someone help me so I can install the software?

Thanks

PS: Or should I just use the 25% off code and buy C8Pro?!?

yer trying to install direct frm DVD rather than frm files copied to user's documents folder?
ye can't write to the dvd AFAIK.

Chrisdmd ( ) posted Wed, 15 September 2010 at 11:08 PM

Well I first tried installing direct from the DVD. That didn't work so I copied the installation file to my Mac Book and then tried to install. That didn't work either. I restarted, that didn't work.  :(

o.k., we'll look into it.

Your operating software may be the same as Vista since it hints at current user cannot write to disc.  I would google your software with that statement and see how its overcomed.  It appears that you must be an administrator instead of a common user to load it or you have some sort of user account control that needs to be turned off similiar to Windows.

No, if Carrara 7 pro isn't going to load, Carrara 8 Pro would not either.  You could also go to DAZ and see how they load Carrara 8 pro to Mac; Carrara 7 Pro should load the same way.  Jan

installed c7pro from 3dartist CD (mac app, windows native content), edited app package (10.6.x).
I found that trying to install from 3dworld dvd caused various crashes (ppc, 10.4.x), but installing
from copied folder worked o.k.  no permissions issues seen in either 10.4.x or 10.6.x.

you know the drill.  startup from macbook install dvd, run disk util, repair drive, repair permissions,
restart from macbook drive.  if it still doesn't work, they've got an url in micro type on the sleeve:
futurenet.co.uk/support, but I daresay, as always, mac users must be self-supporting.

Thanks for the help. I will try the startup form the dvd and see if that works.

Thanks again

Are you trying to install to a managed account? Only the admin accounts in Mac OSX can install software, as you need permissions to write to certain files)applications) being one.

I found a solution and it worked great. Here is the link

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh669.html

This is my MacBook Pro, not networked or used in any fashion like that. It is my home computer. The funny thing is I was able to install the Vue 8 Infinite PLE from the disk but not Carrara. When i followed the directions on the link above it installed with out any problems.

Thanks again for all the help and advice!

cmcc, the first time you bring up Carrara again, bring it up as an administrator, then put in your serial number.  Ensure that your UAC (User Account Control) is disabled just in case.  Jan
