Subject: Forum Reply Box Broken! Attention Mods.

lesbentley ( ) posted Sun, 24 October 2010 at 2:15 PM · edited Sat, 08 February 2025 at 9:57 PM

I tried to paste some text with HTML markup into the "Reply" Box, using the (new) HTML button, but the Reply Box editor opened up full screen, and there was no button to post the text. This was under FireFox v3.6.10.

I also notice that the buttons to embed links and images have been removed from the editor. I found those buttons very usefull, and would very much like to see them reinstated. Also the FireFox spel check is no longer working in the editor.

I thought exactly the same thing but after closer inspection found that everything was still there. HTML ... you need to actually click on "HTML" the icon next to it is to toggle full screen. The link editor is there but grayed out until you highlight some text.

Did not realize that the old editor was broke so not sure why it was "fixed" :)

the old editor had issues with Firefox 3 and above - right click did not function correctly, right click copy and paste were permanently disabled for security reasons in Firefox, etc.

OK that makes sense, thanks.

I use the latest firefox and could use copy/past/cut without problems. I just went into Tool Options and adjusted the "Content" "Advanced".

Personally I can't stand this new reply window.  It makes my text that I'm typing look teensy weensy, and when I type things, it shows up all double spaced when posted.

EDIT:  See?  The aboe 2 paragraphs had a single space between them.  They look double spaced.  Lord knows how many spaces will be between the last paragraph and the EDIT because I put in 2 spaces.

Quote - ... embed ... images have been removed from the editor.

If you want to refer to offsite images (rather than attatching one) then you have to manually enter in the tag in HTML mode.

If you hit shift/return it will eliminate the double spacing.  Isn't there still a server maintenance scheduled for this Wed afternoon?

lesbentley ( ) posted Sun, 24 October 2010 at 7:45 PM

Thanks for the pointers Phil. Perhaps it isn't really broken. I guess I should at least give it a chance. Still it would have been nice to have a bit of warning, and some explination of the changes, rather than just suddenly finding that it had changed, and being left with no idea how to use it.

Perhaps I over reacted and spoke too soon. If I did, it was because I had a sudden flash-back to the dark days of site "upgrade", when it took many months before the site was back to a reasionable level of functionality.

Still I really liked the combination of the old editor and FireFox. It made checking the spelling very easy (that is very important to me). Now it looks like I'm going to have to install new software to spell check, before I past into the editor, and that's going to slow me down.

I agree that some notice/explanation would have been the reasonable thing to do. Using shift-return shouldn't be necessary to get normal line spacing IMO.

The default font is too small for a site with a fair number of, ah 'vintage' members - again IMO. At least make it a persistent preference.

Spell checking still works for me in Opera. right-click cut & paste, which used to throw a browser security exception, now work... but I've become accustomed to using ctrl-x/ctrl-v so it's a wash.

Even though the link dialog always took a while to come up for me, I'm not sure that highlight and click "insert" link is a great improvement.

I'm sure it will be a boon to many but I'm left disappointed by the unannounced roll-out and underwhelmed by the overall result, but life goes on :-)

Gives us all a chance to brush up on our HTML skills, doesn't it?
I personally have no issues inserting formatting code and other stuff in the html editor, but I'm weird. Ask anyone, they'll tell ya.

What I really hope is that the new format will finally let me answer posts on my iPhone - I can read stuff but can't answer anything because Safari or whatever had issues with the "Reply" textbox.
Which is a bummer, believe me. More so for me than you, I'm sure.

Good news. This reply from my ipad.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Cool! Iphones work finally

Funny how badly we want to stay connected, especially to R.  Recently my phone line got knocked out and I was without internet for 3 !!! days.  I was suffering withdrawals.  When they fixed it though they gave me a buried phone line!

Hey Gang, programers have been informed of  issues with the new forum. We'll keep you updated. :)

ryuslilangel,

Good to know that the programmers are aware of the issues. At present there is a huge profusion of double spaced, and in some cases even quadruple spaced posts in toe Poser Forum. I think it is safe to say that the new editor is causing far more problems than it is solving.

May I suggest that the site reverts to the old editor, until all the bugs have been ironed out of the new one, and it has been thoroughly tested.

Number one bug on my list is getting the FireFox spell check working for text pasted into the editor. Number two is fixing the double spacing.

IMHO there was nothing wrong with the old editor, so we should not have to act as beta testers for the new one.

The old reply box wouldn't accept input in Safari, the Mac browser. Now it does, so congrats on joining the cross-platform age! It's ironic if Firefox is now problematic here. That's what I was forced to use before if I wanted to reply.

I've always used a WP or text editor for anything over a few lines but..I am an increasingly crotchety, desktop-centric Luddite who doesn't think that every computing bell and whistle should be crammed into a browser and shoved through a phone line.  Nuff problem keepin' the damned kids off my lawn...
