Subject: PhotoShop compatibility with G4 iMac with iMac G and i7 MacBook Pro

Hi All.

I am not a PhotoShop Wiz though I have gotten pretty proficient using it.

Just got a MacBook Pro i7 running SnowLeopard and need to get PhotoShop.

Not sure what to do though I have read the specs for it as far as system requirements the cost of the application demands I spend the money once and forget about it. But spending the money once demands I get one version of it so it will work on both my machines.

The G4 iMac is currently running OS 10.2.8 with a gig of RAM and I currently have PhotoShop 7 on it. I am upgrading it to OS 10.4.6 to bring it up to speed but not sure if it will still allow me to continue using PhotoShop 7 or if I will need to upgrade.

If I have to upgrade the version I was planning to get for the MacBook Pro would hav been CS5 which will NOT run on the older iMac. I would be willing to go back to n older version of PhotoShop (CS3 or CS 4) if I was sure either would run on both machines without a problem.

I contacted Adobe several times (Via their web page CONTACT link) but as usual I have gotten no responses from them.

Any advice I can get from experienced users in these platform/OS/PhotoShop version uses would be appreciated.

I know that plain ol' CS had a problem with multicore (multiprocessor) support when upgrading computers (fortunately a patch is out there), the fill bucket and/or certain selections would often crash things. Not sure if something similar is the case with 7. Other than looking to see if you need patches for the old version, it couldn't hurt to check out the latest and greatest.

Well the latest and greatest is CS5 and it has some issues on older machines/OS combos. What I need is a version that I can buy in one box that I can use on both the G4 iMac running OS 10.4.6 AND my i7 MacBook Pro running OS 10.6.4.

CS might run on the iMc but not on the MacBook. CS5 will run on the MacBook but not on the iMac. It frustrates the hell out of me to be corraled like this by the behemouth Adobe (Who BTW after two weeks of sending emails to Pre Purchase Support havent had the decency or professional courtesy of responding...one would think they are too well off to dream of helping me to decide which one I want to buy!).
