If you have Vista or Windows 7 you can do it with their own memory checker, built in and costa nothing...

Went to the memcheck site and the free version won't work if you have over 3 gigs of ram. Still working with XP Pro 64 so hoping to find something that will work with that.

Can someone tell me why when I start a new sentance by hitting enter it jumps down so many lines? Only happens here.

No.. no, no... don't do that.

I had a RAM issue that Windows Vista failed to discover over and over again. It kept reporting all was just fine, although I had reason to suspect I had a RAM issue in one of my four 2 GB sticks.

I had to run Memtest 86 on it in full deep scan mode, runnign all the tests available, in multiple passes, to finally determine where the problem was and what stick was casuing it. It took all day but I finally nailed it down.

My vote goes to Memtest 86 all the way. Windows memory tools are crap and just basic, and  will not detect anything but very obvious problems.

I usually use Crucial.com

And as the Pakled earlier stated, not too much of a fancy one. But

does the job.
