Subject: Do shaders in poser matter when importing scene into Vue8

Just wondering if vue just works with the actual materials assigned to figures and objects or does it import the shaders aswell.

There's an option when importing a Poser scene to 'render using Poser shader tree' - or something like that - and it makes a difference.

I don't think Vue actually imports the shaders as they'd make no sense to Vue's render engine. From memory, I think it uses parts of Poser's render engine to handle them, but I could be wrong.

hmmm....last time I did that my scene crashed. Need more memory apparently.

Using Poser shaders in Vue is fine, crashes could be memory related as Vue needs lots of it.

6gb..I think I need to compress my textures because I only apply Hi-rez mats. Does Skinvue help in anyway? Or is that just a mat modifier for poser materials in vue?

6 should be plenty, you need to look elsewhere for your crashes..

Skinvue is a good app, very good in fact if you don't want to use shaders. It uses it's own material AFAIK...

Actually, SkinVue will use the original textures but adds a fearsomely complicated node network to it.  Uses its own spec maps though I think

Sorted out the problem..Disabled re-posing in vue option and the import seems fine. Apparently that used up some resources my pc needed. Regarding skinvue, does it automatically overwrite the poser shader tree info on charecters or modify them? I know it uses the assigned textures but does it eliminate everything else before applying its own shader rules?

SkinVue 8 added to the existing Poser skin material, whether it came from Poser or was generated by Vue.  Version 9 works the same I'm assuming.

SkinVue never ate up any remaining resources I had in Vue.  I've had six Poser figures in a Vue scene, each with their own SkinVue settings applied.  A very realistic looking group of people.

cool..I was just wondering if there was a conflict of shaders with posers and adding skin vue on top of that...

Do you ever render poser people with their clothes on? Skin vue is only for skin. (sadly)

hmmm..seems like I will have to do a couple of test renders to see what shaders work best from poser and what will work with skinvue

I use either. sometimes the textures come into vue just fine without keeping the poser shader option checked.

I've never used the option. Be interesting to see a comparison if you're going to be testing anyway.

  1. No Poser shaders no SkinVue

  2. Poser shaders

  3. SkinVue

  4. Poser shaders + SkinVue

Yup, I have been known to feature clothed figures in my Vue renders occasionally.  They still get SkinVued though.  I'll normally do quite a bit of work to the clothing materials as well though
