Subject: vue4 trouble

Hi, I've been using vue since v2 and bought the v4 upgrade as soon as it came out. I've a couple of questions which have been bugging me for a while and thought I'd ask for some advice. Does anyone have good OpenGL performance with an NVidia card. I've tried v4 on a GF DDR,GF2 MX and a GF3 and the performance is rotten. All 3 of these cards can throw polys around in huge numbers and I don't have any complaints when using LW6 - I suspect it's something to do with the multi threading. Even so the display rendering speed when the background thread is turned off is very slow. Any ideas - driver problem ? Also - since installing the patch I don't see any preview pictures/atmospheres when I try to load an atmosphere/scene - I think something has gone wrong here. I'll try a reinstall. It's really the OpenGL thing that bothers me as it's essentially useless and is unuseable. I have to go back to goold old wireframe display. Any hints etc greatly appreciated

I have the TNT 2 Ultra chipset and I've had to disable Open GL. Like you said, its so slow its useless. Time for a new card I think. Rich

I couldn't help about the card problem, since I'm using a Voodoo 3, but as for your previews for the atmospheres, you can delet ethe .prv file in the atmospheres collection(s) folder(s) and Vue will make a new one next time. I had that problem with my Objects collections and doing that worked. I think it has something to do with installing the new version over the old one, which, incidentally, you don't have to do, since all the upgrade searches for is the necessary Registry entries.

Thanks guys - I've had a play around with OpenGL and can get good performance but with another problem. If I enable the "backgroud draw thread" then I can navigate around the viewports as quick as anything - very smooth. But as soon as I release the mouse, all the viewports get overwritten with garbage. I can disable the background thread and the garbage goes away but the viewport performance is awful. I think I'll contact e-on with this one

Gforce II Ultra with 64 megs. I've gotten so that I just use bounding boxes and depend on the little preview to make sure everything is right. -SMT

I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!

Seems that a lot of people have this problem. I bought a new video card, Elsa Gladiac ultra, and with me its the same. The card only work, when I disable Background drawthread. But most of fun is, that my old matrox G 400 worked fine, but slow. E-on says, that it would be a problem with my elsa-drivers, but the nvidia reference driver wont work too. There are more problems with nvidia, maybe e-on will fix this. Niko
