Subject: Facebook share thingy

jecnodde ( ) posted Thu, 30 September 2010 at 2:41 AM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 3:39 AM

Argh I think I'm going insane soon. Everytime when I go to a product homepage, everything loads alright, but after a while the page turns white and the only thing I see is that darn little thumb for "Be the first of your friends to like this"

I cant see anything else, just a white background and that facebook thingy. Ok to be fair, it only happens when I'm bromsing product by going by the link in my wishlist. Extremly frustrating anyway.

I'm using Opera.

I just tried the same thing on my Opera 10.62, and all was well. I do get the white screen thing in other places on the forum (e.g. when adding a link to a forum post), but it always goes away again.

Is your Opera and Flash up-to-date? That's all I can think of.

...erh, no :P I think I have seen update notice about both Opera and Flash, so I can pretty sure say that none is up-to-date. I will try and see if that solve it.

Some of the earlier versions of Flash were particularly shaky with Opera - mine used to crash regularly on certain advert-heavy sites. It's also worth having the latest version of any browser: Opera is not as vulnerable to security holes as the major players, but that doesn't mean there aren't risks. The latest versions of both Opera and Flash have an auto-update feature, which I'd advise you to use. :)

Ok both flash and opera updated - didnt change anything :/ So now when I want to look at more information on a product I'm intrested in, I have to use firefox.

Oh another thing I have seen when using opera, that is that I cant get any information in the product pages either, no matter what product infomration button I press (editorial, review and more)

I'm out of ideas then, sorry. The product buttons don't use Flash, so it has to be an Opera issue.

All I can suggest is that you uninstall Opera completely and do a fresh install of the latest version in case something from one of the older versions is still hanging around and interfering with operation.

Revo Uninstaller is a good way of ensuring a total uninstall - the Windows uninstall process sometimes leaves stuff behind. The free version will do the job for you.

Before you uninstall, read this article on migrating your settings to make sure you don't lose your bookmarks etc. Note that it's a little out of date - the opera6.adr file is now named bookmarks.adr, but as far as I know it's ok to rename your old opera6.adr bookmarks file.

Thanks for trying  :)

I'm having the exact same problem but I'm using firefox and it doesn't matter how I try to get to the product page - through an email newsletter link, from my wishlist, or even through a marketplace search - same thing happens; white page with nothing but the facebook 'like it' button.  The page acts like it's still trying to load, but nothing ever happens no matter how long I leave it.  This new feature has made it completely impossible for me to shop at Renderosity! :(

I blocked them with Ad Blocker Pro in Firefox, best thing ever, now they don't get in the way when I am browsing.

Mwhahwoohaa - I found a solution - since well i still use opera, and dont want to switch to anyother webbromser. I simple just disabled javascript, ok this make the image show on product not working correct, but I can still see the product page...and best of all i dont get that darn freaking white page with the facebook share thing on :)

Bump, same happens to me, Firefox 3.6.13 with noscript, Renderosity.com has permissions to run scripts. They better get this fixed or I will buy somewhere else.

Sometimes it works but then these stupid tabs cannot be selected. Pass your parameters with GET or POST and get rid of javascript where it's  not needed.

And no, I will not join f**kbook.
