Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
The folder tree is messed up.
You have the textures in runtime/textures. This is correct.
However, the rest of it is in runtime/Runtime/libraries, which is incorrect.
How did this get past the freestuff QA? I thought Rendo had a requirement that the zip file has to be arranged correctly to match a Poser runtime structure?
As it is now, a user cannot do what I just told somebody to do - drag "runtime" from the zip into a Poser runtime parent folder.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
Also, under Materials, there are two copies.
shoes_mat.mc6 + png
and also under a sub-folder
shoes/shoes_mat.mc6 + png

i have my folders on a seperate partition and in my custom folder.
i did the shoes for myself and i posted them online . you can send everything through emails, forums. i dont care.
you can also change teh textures and post them online. you can make a morph from the shoes or even change the OBJ file and post it online.
I don't understand your point, ice-boy. You asked if they work.
First step in making them work is to install them. Since they don't install correctly, I pointed it out.

Thanks ice-boy.
There are some other packaging issues apart from those mentioned by bb:-
The textures folder contains a huge (47MB) and superfluous PSD file.
The image maps should really not be directly in the Textures folder, but in a sub-folder (e.g. ice-boy / shoes / ).
The CR2 file contains an incorrect reference:-
figureResFile :Runtime:Geometriesboots_spider.obj

its not meant to be used in poser. this is for everyoen who has photoshop. you can open it and make your own texture. i like to have everything on seperate layers.

Now I understand. I thought it was included in the runtime by mistake.

ice-boy,
I was referring to the double runtime/runtime/libraries
The libraries folder should be at the same level as the textures folder, not one below.
I'm not talking about the fact that the runtime is under a top-level folder. That is fine. I'm talking about the libraries is in the wrong place.

The full path to the cr2 is currently:
Shoes/runtime/Runtime/libraries/Character/shoes/Shoe_1.cr2
It should be
Shoes/runtime/libraries/Character/shoes/Shoe_1.cr2
I don't know what you mean by you always copy into your own folder and it works.
This package does not work.
If you simply unzip this file to its own folder and attempt to add "Shoes" as an external runtime, you'll see that you can't find the props or materials. They are in the wrong place. And Poser will create new, empty copies of the library folders where they should be, creating massive confusion.

ice-boy: oops... you changed the location of the OBJ file and the image maps, but you did not change the file paths in the CR2 and the MC6!
Edit: @ bb, ice-boy corrected that problem and updated the download.

ice-boy, you need to make a new folder in the root of drive C, called Runtime. That means, when you open C you see your new runtime folder straight away.
Copy and paste the folders containing all the parts of your freestuff item into here, checking that they are correct in your poser first.. Make sure they go into the new runtime in the correct place, which will mean you'll need to make some new folders in the new runtime. For instance, your folder of textures should be inside a folder called Textures, your geometries folder should be inside a folder called Geometries and so on.
Copy and paste your readme and any other textual items.
Then zip up your item from this runtime folder and it should install correctly on anybody's machine :)
