Subject: Is There Software That Takes Photos Of A Building And Converts To 3D Object

Hello.

Does anyone know of software out there that can take a series of pictures from a building and convert it into a 3D object so I can navigate around it inside of vue? I'm trying to save myself the time of constructing the building by hand, if only I can just replicate the building or most of it by taking pictures and converting them to a 3D representation of the building so I can then animate a camera fly through of it.

There's software around that can convert images of an object to a 3D model but they aren't too accurate and I doubt they'd work for a building.  Probably quicker to model it

MetaCreations' Canoma was acquired by Adobe Systems. It was discontinued and its technology folded into other products.

Canoma (now discontinued) did exactly what you are asking, although I'm not sure if can be "Navigated". I'd wager that you would still have to assemble all of the panels (walls, cielings, etc.) I think Canoma was inteded for doing exteriors primarily. I'ts been a long time since those old MetaCreations days...lol

Franks is probably right...Building yourself may be less frustration, and less expensive.

I'm not sure what product Adobe "folded" it into but that may be a starting point for you to start looking.

Hope this helps (at least a little).

Attached Link: Imagemodeler

I just discovered 'Imagemodler' when Autodesk gave it to me as part of the Maya subscription pack: I'm not sure if it's actually sold, but it certainly makes 3D models out of 2D images.

Thanks Paloth and ShawnDriscoll.

The Autodesk product looks great but it also says it is available with the purchase of other Autodesk products. The insight3D looks like a possibility though it does say don't hold your breath and that it does not always work, hmm...wonder why.

Since the insight3D is free I will probably give that a try, although I have already started modeling the church building in Cinema 4D I was interested in. I want to make a vue cgi movie with a fly in surrounding the church then a smooth motion tour into the church. If the photos were to work it would be a great help because only after I started trying to model inside of the building did I realize the structural details that were there I never noticed before.
