Subject: Question About Preview Options and Tool Tips

nabob21 ( ) posted Sun, 21 November 2010 at 11:43 AM · edited Mon, 03 February 2025 at 7:41 PM

Hello everyone,

In the materials previews, I have noticed in Vue 9 Infinite that there is some text that says Parametric when the mapping mode is parametric or 10m if I choose another mapping mode. I know that in the Preview Options dialog, I have the option to change the object size and when I do this the text will change from say 10m to 1m but I am not noticing any changes as a result of doing this. What exactly does changing the object size in the preview options actually do?

Secondly, does anyone know how to get the Tool Tips to display in Windows Vista Ultimate 64 Bit? They are turned on in the options but I have not had any succes in getting them to display for the last 3 versions of Vue. It is very frustrating.

Thanks for any replies.

Hi nabob21 - I think the reason noone has answered your question yet is because we sort of covered this in the thread just before yours, which in turn had a link to another thread.  We came to the conclusion that there is a bug in Vue 9 which I am just about to report to e-on.

Hi Mari-Anne,

Thanks for the reply. I had read the thread on the scale issue but not the one on the function editor and now between the two I can figure out what the Preview Options object scale does.

However, do you have any suggestions regarding the Tool Tips? I find it very frustrating not to have them especially when you are trying to learn a new interface but as mentioned above they have not worked for the past 3 versions of Vue.

That's strange about the tool tips.  Is it only in Vue that you are experiencing the problem?  If so, I'd ask e-on about it.  It might have something to do with your video card.  If you have that problem in all applications & browsers, I'd google "tool tips" and see if you can find something.

I hope you get the problem solved!

By the way, I am not noticing any effects when I change the Object Size either and was hoping someone would answer your question.

nabob21 - I don't know how helpful this will be to you, but I am working one of Vladimir's tutorials (really, nothing to do with Object size but I just happened to try it out there) - tutorial number 25 Clouds & Fog.

Here, Vladimir is talking about changing the material of a cloud and he goes into the Function Editor about a third of the way through the tutorial.  When he highlights the Basic Repeater Fractal Node, I notice that he has his object size set to the default 10 m.

If you follow along and set your Object Size at this point to 1 m, you will lose all the spots on the display of the fractal node in the bottom left corner of the Function Editor.

Now, if you insert a 0 in the Scale and Amplitude dimensions so that they read 0.085526 and 0.041623, respectively, you get the spots back, i.e. you've allowed for the change in Object Size.

I just felt that (to me) this was a good example to show me how the difference makes itself known.

Hi Mari-Anne,

Thanks for the tutorial tip. I will check it out and give it a try myself.

As far as the tooltips issue goes, it is only in Vue that it doesn't work. I had sent in bug reports on the previous versions but didn't get an answer. I haven't submitted one yet for Vue 9. I had hoped that someone here could provide me with a possible solution.

Hi - that really surprises me that you didn't hear back from e-on about the tooltip problem.  I had an answer within an hour of filing the Object Size bug report - albeit only "Thanks for the report - I'll forward to our development group." from Lee.

If I were you,  I would post a question on the e-on user forum too, and maybe on the Cornucopia forum.  Granted, pretty much the same people frequent those forums as are here on Renderosity, but it's annoying enough to be worth the extra effort.
