Subject: File Types - A Primer?

Hello again. As I've been learning about transparency, bump, and image maps, I'm starting to actually see some of the file types that Poser and other 3D programs are using. 3DS is obviously 3DS Max native, but how about other things like CR2, OBJ, etc? Is there a list somewhere? I remember having the same kind of fun when first learning about raster image files. :)

There is an understanding Poser files tutorial at Poser Arcana that explains the file types and locations that are specific to Poser. It won't explain the difference between a .max and a .3ds file, but I haven't really figured that out either. There may be a source for similar info here on 'rosity. Search in the tutorials section. Hope this helps GrayMare

Have you ever seen the "Wotsit's Format" website. It's a sort of compilation of information on just about every file format in the known world. Just type in a format (like .3ds or .max or .obj or .lwo, or even something liek .mp3, .exe, etc.) and it will tell you all about it. Wotsit's Format http://www.wotsit.org For years, one of the most valuable resources on the internet.

Thank you both for the replies. And for anyone tuning in, I've found http://www.awakemm.com/poserarcana/ to be a wonderful resource in general, not just for file type information.
