Subject: Poser Pro 2010 SR1 - problems running service release

blonderella ( ) posted Fri, 03 December 2010 at 3:39 PM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 7:37 PM

I am trying to run Poser Pro 2010 SR1 and am completely unable to get it to run.  The first error it throws up as soon as I try to run it is "Poser Pro could not be found on this system. The installation may be incomplete or has been relocated." even though I am running it from my C:/ drive.   I click OK to manually locate my copy of Poser which is in C:/Programs/SmithMicro, then I get this error "Poser Pro is not in the selected directory", and even when I point it to the Poser Pro 2010 folder, it prompst me to "please locate a valid Poser directory", even though the pp2010 exe isthat folder .

What is is refering to "a valid Poser directory" and why is it not recognizing the pp2010 exe file to allow me to install this service pack? I do have my runtime located on another drive, but unless I don't understand how this is supposed to work, I don't know why the location of the actual runtime would hamper the installation of the service pack.

I am unable to find a thread anywhere dealing with this particular issue, and I have googled and followed numerous threads for hours.  Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried a Smith Micro enquiry it's the sort of tech thing they should be dealing with.

They sorted my problems out with this kind of issue.

No, I haven't tried that route...I wanted to make sure first it isn't "operator error" aka "i.d.10.t" error   >,<

it looks like you have a Mac and I'm running Windows...but I looked under my shared folder anyway, still didn't work...I don't know why it keeps asking me to locate a valid poser directory when I manually locate the .exe file...this is frustrating, I've never had a problem running an update for any program before

Are you running the SR1.1 updater?  The SR1.2 updater is for Poser Pro, not Poser Pro 2010, and so it won't work if you have Poser Pro 2010 installed.

I redownloaded the SR again and for whatever reason it seemed to work fine this time...I have no idea why it wouldn't run before...thanks for your help, maybe it was an i.d.10.t error  lol

You did not mention which OS you are running on your system.  Vista and Window 7 are notorious for interfering with Poser installations into Program Files folder.  If this is the case, I would strongly recommend relocating Poser to your core drive away from Program Files folder.
