Subject: Prop... making new MATS..

chaylastorm ( ) posted Sat, 04 December 2010 at 2:22 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 8:49 AM

Have a prop that I want to make a new MAT. for but can't seem to work it out. I know how to do it with pose Mats... but I don't know how to change the ... what do you call it??... the words in the pp2.  I am wanting to get this 'freebie' out before Christmas.

I'm using Poser 7 and a mac.

Any help would be gratefully accepted...  smiles

The method I use is to load the item in Poser, then in the material room , make the changes , do a test render and save as a material or material collection.

Open the material collection file (.mc6) in a text editor (wordpad) and change the line that reads mtlcollection to actor $current

Then rename the mc6 file to pz2 and move it and its thumbnail to the poses folder.

More people are just using material files instead of making mat poses.

a material file will work on a prop even without a figure in the scene.

Thanks markschum... will give that a go... and yes.. I had noticed that there was more 'materials' files now.  :)

O.K. here's what I did... copied the .mc6 onto my desktop... and changed the version to 4.01 (same as a pose one) .. changed the mtlCollection to actor $current.... went through and got rid of all the :runtime... which I do also for 'pose'.. then changed the .mc6 to .pz2 and put it into the pose folder... but it didn't work... I've done something wrong... can you see where?  Other than changing the mtlcollection.. everything else is what I do when making a mat. in Pose...

could you post the file , just rename it to .txt and attach it here or email it to marks542004@yahoo.com , you should not have made any changes other than the mtlcollection to actor $current.

It wont work if the prop isnt selected of course

Keep in mind for a Mat Pose to work (pz2 file) a figure has to be present in the scene. Whereas an .mc6 no figure is required. Load your prop and if your mc6 works and your pz2 does not that is the problem I would say.

In total agreement with grichter.  That is one of the limitations with MATpose files.  They work very well with cr2 character files, but will not apply if only a prop exists in the scene.  As mentioned, you either have am cr2 present or use mc6 collections.

yup, what they said, either have a figure in the scene , or use a material , not a pose.

My 'materials' works fine... but I was hoping that  I could load the the 'prop' and then just change it the same way as you do with a 'character' by going into pose and just clicking on the 'mat' that I want....... are you saying this can't be done?  I understand that I also need to have a 'character' in there as well.

Correct on both counts.
