try scaling down the material... if its at 1 for example, scale it down to 0.05

Hi
I'm trying to make a close-up scene of an object embedded in some sand but the material nearest the camera always looks terrible and pixelated.
The object is 17/18 cm from the camera so I've changed the focus of the camera to 17cm thinking maybe this will help but no! I think I've got the camera's focal length at 25mm. I've rendered it in Broadcast quality thinking maybe that would help but again no!
Here's what I've got so far...
and here's kind of what I'm trying to achieve, i fudged this in photoshop...
Is there some option in the material editor that makes it look good when viewed close-up? Any ideas?
Cheers!
