How do I eliminate this "Base plate" on terrains? Thanks.  Bryce 6.

Click on the terrain.

Click on E for edit.

The terrain editor windows show up including one called terrain canvas. Along its top-right edge are buttons that look like a white square with a border and a black down arrow. Click on the white square and a page shows up behind the canvas.

On the right edge is a long bar fading from white at top to black at bottom. Along the right edge of this is a bracket.

Place the mouse cursor over the bottom part of the bracket. Left-click and hold then drag upward. The bottom portion of the long bar will turn red. The darker portions of the terrain canvas will also turn red. The lower portion of the terrain is clipped off. Slide up and down till you get something you like then release the mouse. Check the button on the far left of the screen to get out of the terrain editor and back to the bryce desktop.

Since the bottom of the mountain is now gone you will need to drop the terrain down to horizon level by clicking the down arrow below the E button in the main window.

Nothing turns red, it's just black and white. There's my "save" check on the bottom right, but it doesn't save the change.

Electroglyph explained it exactly but I've attached a screenshot which may help - remember to click and hold on the base of the bracket, this will let you move it up to reveal a red bar as explained.

Yes if you grab the bar itself you can drag around the greyscale. Lots of other neat effects can be had by swapping your highs and lows. You can grab the top part of the bracket and create a mesa flat top out of the highs. This will be marked in yellow. You can also grab the point of the bracket and drag the bottom and top clipping points up and down the scale.

The Bryce terrain editor is very powerful. We could spend a good 30-40 more replies on just the controls built into the terrain canvas. One of the easiest ways to figure them out is just to play with them and see what happens. Anything you don't like remember all you have to do is click on the X button in the bottom right corner. The terrain resets to the way it was when you first opened the editor. Glad you worked it out.

Good point electroglyph. There aren't many tutorials around on how to really use the terrain editor to it's full capacity. There is an artist I've seen somewhere (maybe here or at the 'other' Bryce site) who used Bryce to create very detailed objects by using the brushes - they were stunning, 3d models. you really would have never guessed they were made with the terrain editor.
