I am returning to poser after a several year absense, I wa susing v6 but I am now using v8. Seems to be a small learning curve between the two.

I have download some of the free stuff as well as purchased a few things but I am afraid I cannot figure out how to get them in the prgram where they belong and are accessible.

Can anyone give me a small assist on how to accomplish this????

Need more information: eg  what operating system, what are you downloading-DAZ or Poser stuff?  Jan

Well here is what is going on and Thank you for answering. I am running vista 32 bit. I installed poser 2010 pro. Little differnt than 6. I purchased some morphs from marmec and his instructions were to unzip to the runtime folder which I did. However when you clickonit it is looking for a ton of files and it would not load.

I assumed it was becuase I did nto have a vicki 4 figure base to go from. I am having a very hard time finding a vicki 4 base figure. Not sure I found one but it did say vickie 4 base and I cannot get it in the proper folders to display the figure.

Now 2010 did come with the standard jessie but she cant be morphed by any of the inj for v4. So I guess at this point my problem is finding a good v4 and directions on how to install and where to install all this stuff.

Hi Wstart, first let's get your base V4, its free at Daz3d.com, along with a bunch of others.  When you get it, it must be downloaded to the area that you have your Poser.exe file located and that should be in your Programs files(x86)/SmithMicro/Poser-your DAZ poser installer will take it from there-read the instructions carefully.

Now for the rest of the stuff, Poser 8 and above has another location for that stuff and its located under C:/Users/ Public /Public Documents/Poser 8 content.

Now, not all vendors have figured that out yet, so you may have to plant all that stuff manually.  To do that, make a  file say c:aposer and unzip the vendor's stuff to that file and see where everything needs to go eg some of the stuff will go under  geometries, and some will go under runtime-character, Pose, Props, Material, Hair etc.

Why do I say c:/aposer as a temp file? It's probably going to be the first thing under C: and easy to find and then delete when you are finished.

Don't forget to disable UAC if Vista starts complaining.  Jan

V4 base is free @ DAZ3D.  You need to register, which is free, and you can have your pick of several models.  However, any morph packs that required are not free and must be purchased separately.

On Vista, you most likely do not have your Main Library in the Program Folders.

If you accepted the default, it will be in the Shared Folder or Public Folder.

For the DAZ3D Figures that want to install to the Program File Folder, it is not necessary. That has not been required of Poser for conent since Poser 5. You can install them to your Library or create an additional Library for Poser to install the Content. With the DAZ3D Figure Installers, you will want to use the DS Function and select the location of the Library Folder. The other option is to create a Poser.exe file in the desired Library Folder that contains the Runtime Folder where you want the content.

On Vista or Windows 7 if you install to the Program Files Folder, files will most likely end up in the Virtual Store. Poser will be able to find them, but it can cause issues down the road.

Exactly Ratscloset.

On Win7 I put a directory in Public Users for each figure or WIP I require and add them to the library as seperate runtimes as needed. I use the Daz Studio installers and point them to the directories I have set out. Very simple and clean. I remove un-needed runtimes to cut down on clutter. As to weather or not this saves system resources I do not know but I have yet to choke the system doing this and I do not have a particullary robust machine.

The V# and M# Runtimes are Daz's Victoria and Michael as is David. The morphs and other content specific to those individual figures would of course be installed to their individual runtimes.
