Didn't say anything but have been out for a bit to get a new knee. Still weak but home for 3 days and already walking without the walker. Keep me in your thoughts please, this is going to take a lot of therapy but I think the outcome is going to be well worth it.  Going to upload a pic of  the suture site, have staples, for free for all the ghouls here...lol

I'm sure that must have been quite painful since most of our body weight balances on our knees.  Hopes for a quick recovery!

My mother-in-law had both knees done at the same time. She wouldn't listen to the doctors. She said she didn't want to go thru it twice! She's walking now and even goes on vacation around the world.

Been there. Had both of mine done a year ago. The rehab taks a lot of work, but keep after it! You'll get there! It is so worth it!

Thanks all, getting the other one done in 3 to 6 months. Still get a bit dizzy from anemia, didn't lose enough for a transfusion but taking iron so should be better soon. Take care

I wish you quick healing. My wife is currently recovering from a new knee and a new shoulder after a bad tumble a couple of weeks ago. I feel your pain and your elation.

Marque, will keep you in my prayers. Don't get discouraged when your recovery platoughs. I've heard that is normal and happens to everyone. 

Madbat. I know several people who have had their knees replaced. They all love them. My mom waited 12 years because she was scared. She said she should have had it done back then.

my mom got one.  it was great!  until she fell.  then it broke and the repair never was as good.  so make dam sure you don't fall!

I'd love it if they did it now, but they say I'm still too young. (45!?!) I guess the theory is that I'll wear out the joints too soon, and they can't be replaced, as it's the bone that wears out (due to the screws and pins). If that's the case, I'd still rather have a couple of years where I can actually walk.

Actually, it can be redone once with the current technology (twice if the first is a partial replacement.) That means, were it to be done now, it would buy you 30-40 years of relief. And 30 years out, who knows what they will be able to do. 30 years ago, a friend of mine was told his heart bypasses would buy him 20 years. At about 25 years, they started to fail. He said, "Well, I'd better get my will in oder." The doctor said: "Why? I can redo the bypasses now. We're able to do a lot more than we used to!"

My doctor was giving me that song and dance (and I was 61) and I asked him "Just how much longer do you expect me to live?"

I finally told him: "Someone is about to do this surgery on me, and I'd really prefer that it be you."

He put me on the schedule.

about 15 years ago I was talking with a woman whose mother had already had her knee replaced twice, so it can be done. My mom's doctor said they last 15 years, but he had never seen one need it. He also said that it isn't so much age as quality of life that determines it. This was after another doctor said my mom was too young. Maybe seek a second opinion.

They pretty much told me no dice till I'm older, or the screws/pins wear out the bones, but if others are getting them replaced more than once, I need to look into that.
