Subject: Proportion Library?

ockham ( ) posted Thu, 16 December 2010 at 7:36 AM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 4:23 AM

While scanning through the code of P4, looking for a keyword, I noticed something interesting.  Along with the strings for other Library titles (Prop, Character, Pose, etc) there was a Proportion Library.

This might help to explain why Poses don't include scaling.  The original idea was to have a separate set of files to control scaling.

I know some folks around here still have an active Poser 1, or at least remember P1.  Was there a Proportion Library, or was this idea never implemented at all?

Poser 1 was Mac only I believe. Poser 2 was the first windows version to the best of my memory.

Online Now!

I have Win/PC Poser 1 floppies.

The program was known just as Poser.

Let me see if the manual is around here. Ok!

Checking out the manual, I don't see anything on Proportion Library.

I do see the stuff we still do now, where you scale/taper individual parts and the body to create new characters that are saved to the library, but not mention of a separate Proportions Library.

Ok I guess they came out with the windows version much later. I remember looking at it for a couple of years and lusting after it but it was Mac only.

Thanks, dlf.  Guess the idea never made it into the executable!

Maybe it was ditched in favour of the "Figure Height" settings.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.   The Figure Height is pretty much obsolete too.  It belonged to the original idea where a few standard meshes were built-in, and you modified the standard meshes in many ways (Characters, Poses, Proportions) to make your figures.

We've come full circle now, with V4 being the standard mesh...............
