Subject: Daz generations/families of figures list?

leather-guy ( ) posted Mon, 20 December 2010 at 3:14 PM · edited Fri, 30 August 2024 at 7:54 AM

Hi

I've been out and away from the Poser scene for a while (making a living is tough & time consuming, sometimes). (I've been using Poser since Version 1 & own all the interim releases, but long gaps in my involvement occur from time to time)

I've got a little time lately & I'm trying to go thru & organize my downloads & runtimes.  Is there an official list (or at least accurate) of the DAZ figures, grouping them by "generation", or  release dates? I thought I archived a thread that at least listed their texture compatibility's, but I can't find it, and I haven't been able to work up a keyword search that gives me the results I want - I found an article on WikiPedia that includes such a list, but I found several omissions and inaccuracies - Searching on the DAZ site didn't help either.

I'm just trying to fill in some gaps in my memory like:

Were Freak, Hiro, Aiko, TheGirl, Steph, David, etc each first released as part of the V2/M2 Generation, or the M3/V3 generation? - where/when does SheFreak come in?   (I'm pretty sure most of them Started with Gen3, and the jump to Ver4 (ie Freak4, Girl4, etc) was a marketing thing as that group is all based off what's basically the same mesh/grouping technology.)  I think I recall there's a fair amount of correspondence between some figures UV mapping in each generation also (within limits), culminating with an overall similarity among the 4th Gen characters, but a list of those similarities would be helpful as well.

Anyone know where I can find such lists?

Thanks.

Jerry

Maybe I can answer some of your questions ;o).

Aiko has been around since Vicky 1 or 2 IIRC and the first gen was a morph of the original Stephanie figure (who was in turn a female version of Mike 1 or 2 I believe). Hiro definitely didn't make an appearance until the gen 3's.

The Girl was a standalone figure that came out during the gen 3 iterations.

Stephanie Petite 3 and David 3 are based on the gen 3 figures.

SheFreak was based on Vicky gen 3. I can't remember if the original Freak was based off of Mike 2 or 3. It's 3 I think, but don't quote me on that one ;o).

That's all I can remember off the top of my head...lol.

I have V3 , M3 , David, Hiro 3 and Aiko 3 as one generation

Then M4 and V4 , with Stephanie, Aiko, Hiro,  SheFreak, and Girl as morphs

She Freak was originally a seperate figure as was TheGirl .

Also the Gen3 figures was the "unimesh" - the Gen4 figures are not 8meaning that Gen 3 Mike and Vicki was essentially the same mesh with slight alterings in the grouping, Gen 4 are separate meshes for Vickie and Mike (at least I think they are...)

Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.

All the generation 3's are:

Vicky3, Mike3, David3, Stephanie Petite, Aiko3, Hiro3, Luke, Laura, Matt, Maddie, The Girl.

Generation 4's: Vicky and Mike 4, Stephanie 4, The Kids 4, The Freak 4, Aiko 4, Hiro 4, The Girl 4. As stated before, The Girl, SheFreak 4, Aiko 4 and Stephanie are morphs of Vicky 4 rather than standalone figures like the gen 3's. Same with The Freak and Hiro for Mike 4. So far, there's no David 4. Actually, I preferred the standalone nature of the gen 3's rather than separate morphs of the same figure, but that's another argument for another time....lol.

Wow!  Thank you all so much - Such quick responses!

Anyone have a link to that thread (those threads?) comparing morph and texture compatibilities from some months back?

Thinking back I just remember my expiriments applying a V2 & 23 M2 textures on the new (at the time) Stephanie figure and the thread I posted the resultant pics in back in 2002 - as they were basically the same mesh, they lined up pretty closely other than some oddness at the nipples & brows, I think.

V1 and 2 aren't texture compatible with Steph or Mike 1 and 2.  Steph and Mike are the same mesh, which is probably why Steph is a bit low in the poly count around the breasts.  The original Millennium Kids are based on the Victoria 1 mesh.

All the Gen 3 figures will take each other's textures to a certain extent.  There's sometimes a bit of weirdness around the mouth area and MATs don't always work properly (A3 has more material zones).

V1 (and 2) were derived from the Posette mesh, V3 was derived from the V2 mesh.  Afaik, V4 is a new build.  And, IMO, a horrible looking one, too.  Really peculiar default shape and a face like a bag of smashed crabs.  And the eyes are too big.

BTW, the original Girl wasn't a Gen 3 figure although they did release a remap which allowed it to take V3 textures.  Girl was a figure by Kim Goossens.  DAZ went through a long drawn out process to acquire it, since Goossens wasn't happy about the Poser fraternaty getting their hands on it and making porno images.  Funny really, since the version he made had genitals.  You can see 'em in the early publicity pics.  Anyhow, DAZ or Goossens ripped out the genitals prior to release.

OOOOoooo them is fighting words. I have purchased 8 zillion outfits, 3 zillion pairs of shoes and boots, and 5 gazzillion hair styles for Vicki the 4th. Breaking out my defualt scene that includes a temple and a sword. Vicky just did a sexy strip tease and is waiting "naykid" with sword in hand for you to show up! :scared:

I never did like TheGirl (cartoony and too big boobs/too hourglass) but that is quite a history to learn about her.

Chuckling at the V4 face expression lol, so true, but at least I can say we're still able to make realistically beautiful girl.  No, not talking about puffy lips/bug eyes either lol.

I'll concede V4 can be made to look rather nice.  Just the default load is a real hound.

I agree, she's ugly.  But, I've seen her look better with certain textures, was rather surprised.

Nope, all 4th gen figures (V4, M4, K4) are based on the same mesh. You can apply the same textures and morphs to all of them with little difficulty.
