Subject: serial number trick??? Help!!!!!!

pjbear ( ) posted Sun, 02 January 2011 at 1:37 AM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 5:06 PM

I just purchased Poser 8 through the mail. Took forever installing it, and then when it finally asked for the serial number at 2:30 in the  morning! -- it would not accept the serial number. I tried over and over, and was careful to not make any mistakes.

Is there a trick to getting the wizard to accept the serial number when one tries to register with Smith????? There are no instructions about using caps or not, I tried it both ways. They don't tell you what on the serial number that comes in the package is capital o or is the number 0. They use dashes but do not tell you whether to use dashes or leave spaces between the groups, or just run them all together.

This seems crazy, the number of [possible permutations of all thes factors is probably huge and one could spend hours and still not know if this was the problem.

Also I might mention that I got the "hybrid" version but there is only one serial number that I can find and it is on the back of the mac disc envelope. But I am installing this into windows and there is no number on the back of that envelope. So I am using the only serial number I can find in the package.

HELP!!!

You should be able to see your serial number in your account at Content Paradise or Smith Micro where you purchased it from.  Log in and go to your purchase history.  Locate your order and you should see your serial number included.

I think it's safe to say that most "0"s in any serial number is a zero because of the confusion you're now having ;o)

Did you originally order the software off of Smith Micro's website? I know you got a boxed version, but if you bought it from SM there's a chance there may be a serial number in the conformation email they sent you.

I did not buy it directly from Smith or from Content Paradise. I bought it from I think maybe Amazon. I would have to check. But it was not Smith or CP.

I DO have the serial number,as I explained in great detail the problem is that the registration set-up will not accept it.

I tried using all zeros where there was any doubt. That did not work.

Acadia ( ) posted Sun, 02 January 2011 at 1:49 AM

As Laurie said, the "0" is a zero, not a capital letter.  I don't think you have to worry about the spaces/dashes.  It's been awhile since I've had to enter my serial number, but I think you just enter in the numbers and letters into the boxes, 4 per box if I remember correctly.

I bought my Poser electronically, so I just copy/pasted the serial number into the field when it asked.

When you buy a boxed version, I don't think you get a serial number in your email confirmation. The serial number appears on the CD case or Box.

Again, I HAVE a serial number. The problem is what I originally described.

I know :)  I was stating to others who suggested that you check your email for a confirmation email containing a serial number, that you bought the boxed version and that there is no serial number in your email because it will be on the CD :)

Does your serial number have 7 letters/numbers in the first part? Followed by 4 sets of 4 letters/numbers?

Here is the Smith Micro Help section on serial numbers:

Help Search

According to that you need to type in the dashes.

It has one set of 7 followed by 5 sets of 4. That's 5 sets of 4.

Even if you bought it from Amazon, you can still scan the receipt and send it to Smith Micro with your request for help. I posted the link to their help section, it tells you how to go about putting in a help request using a scanned copy of your purchase receipt.

I looked back on my Poser 6 and my new Poser Pro upgrade, both only have 7 numbers/letters in the first part, and 4 sets of 4 numbers/letters, not 5 sets.

What version of Poser?  Was it a new copy or used copy?  If it was used, maybe the serial number is being rejected for some reason.

Thanks for the help section link. Yes I tried all that, but it is a comfort to know that I really did do things right. Small comfort!!

I guess I will have to try them by e-mail in the morning when I am I am in a better spirit. This has worn me out for tonight. Hope P8 is worth all this!

Thanks for trying. This just does not seem right.

If it's an upgrade it may be asking for the old sn first. Same here been a while since I entered the sn but I seem to remember having to put in the old number to prove I owned it.

SAMS3D ( ) posted Sun, 02 January 2011 at 4:52 AM

I agree with Marque, maybe you should try your upgrade serial number.  Sharen

If you're using Win7 then try using "Run as Administrator".

The OP never said they upgraded from a previous version.

To PJBear: You only have the SN on the box/CD, right? Not in any form where you can just copy/paste it?

You won't need the dashes.

I just re-entered my Poser 8 serial - (for some reason it didn't survive my latest migration to a new computer and I had to track my order at SmithMicro to find it again L*)

My serial number has 7-4-4-4-4 in the format of

AA11AAA-1111-11AA-AAA1-AAA1

where A denotes a letter and 1 a number. hope that helps. And for the record, I couldn't type in the "previous serial number field although mine was an upgrade from Poser 7. It still registred fine.

Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.

Finally somehoow or other after enough fooling around it worked! I don't know what I did to make it work, maybe I just got an A for effort :)

Thanks all for trying.

PS, it was not an upgrade.

Was just a suggestion in case it was.
