ITs the start of the new year, and there is a product that really caught my eye so far. Not to dis anyone's new stuff, as they all fit in for somebody, but this is the type of character I look for.

A new one from Rebelmommy....RM Elaine ...
I love the marketing presentation, first off...a bit new from the norm. The entire character is presented very well...and the character herself, looks like she needs to be in our runtimes.

Yes, it's a nice presentation.  Looks like a cover for a teen magazine.  Obviously a lot of work went into creating it.   Personally though, I get so unexcited about the never ending flood of Poser female stuff.  I like seeing something different with lots of choices/options.  My vote for one of the best MP items this past year is for the Super Hamburger Pak.  Yeah, I know.  How often do you need a burger in your scene.  But dang!  If you do, this burger pak has you thuroughly covered with every kind of topping and bun imaginable.  And it comes with Fries!!!  Yum!

{sigh} Is that photographed-in reflections I see in the eyes? Oh well, I suppose it doesn't matter. Based on what one sees in the marketplace, it's still a requirement to have them in the eye colourMaps, for some inexplicable reason. I even purchased a set from a vendor, asking her if she'd be willing to send me the original ones (the images before inserting the reflections) and she seemed puzzled: why would I want that? 😕

The vendors don't read the forums, that's clear. Or we'd see a lot less of this.Or maybe not, because those that require burnt-in reflections don't read these forum either.

Otherwise, a stunning character.

Yes, Wolf, you can get rid of them with an effort, but it requires cloning and detail work.Oh well, the market drives this stuff, and the market is largely ignorant about stuff, so... can't really blame the vendors, I suppose.

This may be a popular trend for current offerings, but I think plenty of V3 products had "plain" colored eyes.  I like using older products when possible.  The system requirements are usually much less.  I would think at least some vendors read the postings in Marketplace wishing well forum.  If folks started posting they would like some eye packs without reflections, I would think someone would create such a pack?

No, because they conflict with the reflections in the eyes of the lights in the scene.

It wasn't an issue until I started using a more enlightened approach to reflections and eye textures. There's heaps of discussions on the topic on here. However, only the fewest of those who frequent the marketplace (Rendo customers) actually come and have a peek in here. It's like we're two different communities. Hence, the profliferation of this sort of thing: most customers want this! Just like burnt-in specualr on the skin: impossible to find a resource kit that doesn't have it.

She doesn't and won't be in mine either.  But I don't think Dave's main point was that everyone needed to buy it.  I took it more as a figurative "loks like she needs to be in our runtimes" as a way of describing his enthusiasim for this product.

Have you thought to e-mail one of the vendors who's product you like that came with reflections in the eyes and asked about them creating something like that without it?  On several occassions I've e-mailed a vender and told them how much I liked their item, but wish it came with this or could they create one like it with these.  And bless their hearts!  They said, "Good idea!"  Not long awards, I got my wish.  It seldom hurts to ask someone directly.

Actually, I have. Once I explained why I didn't like/need those photographed-in reflections, she promised me to get me the original images ... haven't heard back from her.

Probably wouldn't hurt to ask a few others, though... 😄

ETA: do you think posting this request on the Vendor forum might have the desired effect, ialora?

I dunno... I've always found Rebelmommy's characters to have more personality than most, and much less Barbi-esque. This pack certainly has body morphs you don't find very often.

As far as baked-in eye reflections, it's a minor point, especially in comparison to the good textures, interesting face, body morphs, and number of options she comes with.

You can say all female characters are Digital Barbis. It all depends on what you do with them before you hit Render.

We must have vastly differnt opinions of what defines Barbi. That is a darned fine render, and an interesting face. Too bad she's not eligible for America's Next Top Model. And, as I said, what you do before rendering makes the difference. Just because you like a face doesn't mean you can have a mess-around with it.

Dave-So ( ) posted Sun, 02 January 2011 at 8:36 PM

I use both reflected and non-reflected textures, if that's the right terminology. I do whatever needs to be done to get away from that blank stare we all love :) It would be great if the vendors included both types with a character, though.

And yes....i was merely stating my excitement on this product. I thought it was somewhat unique with the eyelashes ... the body morphs, a ton of very nice eyes, etc. The face is beautiful...and yes, there are a ton of the same everywhere..and I sometimes think to myself, there are so many look alike characters, why bother? How many can you deal with? Other than portraits and stuff, who needs them all?

But certain characters just sort of strike me..this one did, most of Phoenix1966 stuff does.. Syyd's Sky over at RDNA is great, most of Mec4D stuff... SteffyZZ when she was around.... what every happened to Stefania anyway?

I rarely use the textures with the included face.. I like to dial up my own, so i use a combo of heads, faces, morphs, etc.

its good to think a bit outside the box, as RM does here. The sameo sameo marketing presentations get a bit old after looking at, what, several thousand, V4 characters :)

Why would I even buy any of them at this point? Something needs to stand out, and at this point, it needs to be almost human or something. At least a different presentation catches your eye. Will I buy this one? Probably not, I already have at least 40 V4 characters, maybe more.

Do I not browse the Marketplace enough? This is a lovely character IMHO. And, despite a looming plumbing bill, I'm raiding Rebelmommy's store today. RM Aubry looks sassy enough for a Full Throttle Render, and I have to have RMTH Laura, 'cause Angelina rocks. There a couple of others that are great faces, but I can't conjure up any images they'd fit. Think I'll add this new one, too, if for nothing else than the textures.

Barbie clones seem to be more rampant in Hollywood than in Poser. You know you're getting old when they all seem like 'the brunette one' or 'the blonde one'... dozens of surgically altered Stepford starlettes. Ah... for a good Kate Hepburn face once in a while...

Now that would provide some non-Babiesque variety to the Poserverse, though I've always been partial to Bacall myself. Doubt that too many of today's content producers know who they are much less what they look like :-)
