Subject: V4/M4 a stupid question

rokket ( ) posted Sat, 01 January 2011 at 9:40 PM · edited Fri, 04 October 2024 at 1:39 PM

I see a ton of stuff out there for these 2 characters. Frustrating because I don't have them and I don't even know anything about them. Are they poser characters or DAZ3D? And where can I get them when I can finally start purchasing content for poser online? Thank you in advance for your understanding and patience with a newb...

Daz3D, get them and others for Free.

You can get them here:

http://www.daz3d.com/i/3d-models/free-3d-models?cat=382&_m=d

The base model is free, the morphs cost a bit extra - they are on special for a bit longer.

BTW, the latest V4 is V4.2... most female figure stuff on Rendo and Daz are for her. You can het her morphs here. Without the morphs, there's little you can do with the base model, unless you want to do your own morphs and stuff, but even then, expressions and stuff are included with this Morphs++ set, so for $10 atm, worth the money.

Most Daz base characters are free. You might want to nab some of the others like M3, V3, David and Steph Petite 3 so that you can use some legacy freebies. They're still very viable figures :o). Aiko 3 is still one of my favorites.

And I guess I better go read that "Most asked questions" thread because I believe it covers how to load V4 into Poser. Thanks for the responses.

In addition to Laurie's suggestion, I recommend you grab V2, Stephanie and M2 while you're at it.  They are older figures and there may not be much content around for them now but they are still pretty good, very usable and have the morphs built in.

I promised to make some free texture sets for them a while ago.  Ain't gotten around to it yet but I will.

I got V4 for right now, and I guess I am spoiled to Poser characters because I really don't like the base model. And as I stated before, I can't purchase anything right now, so getting the morph++ for her is out of the question until around August or September. So I may keep her and the small things I downloaded for her (wasn't much, a lot of things needed the morph++, so.....)

Although I did find bionic rooster's robe for V4. I just don't know where to put the UV file... That's kind of important. And embarassing.

The uv template is just there in case you want to make your own textures for the object BionicRooster made ;o). You can keep it anywhere you like.

Thanks! I feel like a dummy. I should have known that, I guess. But I am only about 2 months into getting serious about Poser now, so I guess I have to give myself time to grow and hopefully learn something along the way.

I will be going back to sea very soon. Nights of uninterupted practice time. I'll be working on lights and other things in Poser, and a little bit each night, I'll try something out in Blender.

There are also loads of free head morphs for V4 available that don't require the morph packs at all.  Not so many for the body, but there are a few out there.

http://www.sharecg.com/pf/full_uploads.php?pf_user_name=akibabe09 (Most of the morphs available at that link don't require the morphs from Daz at all)

I know there are also a bunch in the free stuff here, just have to search.

Hope that helps.

And with your talent, rokket, having worked with independent figures, you can even do your own in Blender and save them as morph targets. About the only reason I'd be getting the Daz ones is for the expression morphs... or were they included with the base figure? can't remember.

Expressions come included with the base figure as I recall.  Only ones that aren't are the predone 'Happy' 'Sad' etc.  Those are in the morphs++

Argile is amazingly forgiving to learn to start doing your own morphs, not free, but the trial is 30 days and nothing is limited on it.  Can make a whole pile in an afternoon once you get used to it.

--and don't forget the free V4.2 texture maps (face, limbs, torso, eyes) available in the freebie section eg SahaFashion_marissa, Undinas Femke, or Adara_Nikisatez's textures).  All are outstanding.

Additionally, there are tons of texture freebies for V3 too.  Jan

Yeah, expression morphs are included in the base figure. I am not sure what the morph++ is for, but a lot of things I really wanted stated that you need it for them to work. Kind of urked me, but then what can I do? Like you stated, make my own character. Which I am going to do eventually. I have a 24 part tut on how to do it in Blender. That is the thing I will be working on when I get back to sea.

My only issue with the freebie section is that it takes too long to wade through that stuff to find what you want. The only thing I really want right now is hair. I really don't like the base figure's hair, and I only found one free hair prop that isn't really all to my liking either.

Using 'search free stuff' should narrow things down for you a lot... 😄

Thanks for the tip. I am leaving V4 alone for awhile so I can concentrate on my Jedi and what I need to get my trailor made. I started work today on the fight between her and Darth Vengeance; the animation is all me, frame by frame. No BVH, no mocap, no premade animations. I hope to have something to show in a couple weeks.
