Subject: smart library?

is there an intelligent library that finds e.g. material textures based on the currently selected figure in an instant?

that would automatically dial the correct fit morph when a hair is loaded?

that allows to save variants (load of multiple things, with a parameter popup maybe) without making a cr2 or pz3?

all these things...

Sounds like one of those 'Did you ever wish your old vacuum cleaner could..." infomercials. Something you're working on?

The first two are in the roadmap for the built-in library. To do those requires more metadata. There has to be a way to correlate knowledge of what accessories go with what objects, and which objects (and the metadata that goes with them) are currently in the scene. Presently, once an item is in the scene, where that came from is not information that is kept as part of the scene. More specifically, "what is this thing that is selected?" is not a question Poser can answer at the moment.

The auto hair fit thing is one of dozens of plugin capabilities that are under consideration. How to do it in an extensible way by 3rd parties is the big question. In a nutshell, how can a vendor add behaviors to library objects (probably written in Python) that can be invoked when an item is loaded or manipulated? A hair fit for is a perfect example. Certainly the figure doesn't know about the hair fits possible, so the hair itself must supply this behavior somehow. And it needs information about what it is being loaded onto in order to do it. (Am I loading on V4 or V3?)

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

i am not working on anything. i would do if it would be confirmed that no product will be available. i think its not so difficult to program something that finds valid mat pose files based on the material zones in the figure.

bill, i think most sold hair items have fit morphs for the most popular characters. i guess inside poser one could make a guess for the current figure by looking up its .obj file (i think this is possible), then you know the figure type, and once you have the info that "this is v4", one can check the hair parameters for something like regex fit.*v4. i think you are doing a similar thing when you find the bump map e.g. for the vss

I think it would make a lot more sense to just change the poser file structure to actually add meta-data, possibly in xml. Things like a canonical name for a figure or prop, so that any material collections created for it could include it as metadata. For the cases of character (clothing) or props what figures they fit. (A4, S4 etc.) By using xml you aren't limited to just single values, you can have lists. If the metadata is kept in an auxiliary file, then it can be generated for existing products, and the products will still be usable for previous versions of poser.
