Subject: OT: Anyone had thumb injury from Officework? What are common injuries?

josterD ( ) posted Thu, 13 January 2011 at 8:42 PM · edited Fri, 26 July 2024 at 5:02 AM

I was pulling staples and turning over papers quickly. this was months ago.i remmber feeling a tiny pain but now months later i have bad pain in the thumb joint when i do the same kind of work and when i type it hurts.

The thumb works and i can bend it. It doesn't hurt as much when i'm out of work and just moving my hands gently. I mostly get the pain badly when i go through ppapers(pulling, moving, flipping through, grasping,  etc) at work and when i type( even though i dont use that thumb(left ) ).

what treatments can i have to help me? And what can i do being that this is the kind of work i have and i can't stop it cause else i would be layed off.

I think this happened at work, like i said months ago,  but since i didn't think it would be this bad..i never told the boss.

I dont have insurance by the way. WIll probably have soon when they hire me(these people haven't hired me in 1 year plus...they keep saying they will and keep me as a TEMP worker) and when they hire me they will change my job to computer stuf...but computer stuff also hurts, like i explained above

It's called repetative strain injury. It happens when you repeatedly do the same thing over and over and over again. It's a work hazard. You don't need to go to the ER for it.

Just make sure you do exercises and stretches.

Here is a link to how to exercise/stretch your hands.

Thanks alot but you don't think is thumb tendon damage? cause it's really bad pain like as if something is broken.

i never had this pain before this thing st arted.. and i had done repetitive stuff in this company for a few months before this injury.

what you describe sound more like the stenosing tenosynovitis sometime call the trigger thumb.

If physical therapy not alleviate, you may have get tendon resectioned. sometime the corticosteriod work to help, but of course these decision to be made by physician

Well Medzinatar. my thumb does not lock and thats what i read in the web about that.

And where my thumb hurts is in the first joint from the thumb tip, below the nail.

i can feel bad pain when i do quick finger work, like i explained above

Best advice is Go see your Doctor....  Poser Forum is not really the best place to get Medical Opinions....

(I actually had a doctor tell me once when I said it hurts when I do this.... (demostrated) and he said... Don't do that!)

Hi JosterD,

Maybe if you...Oops!  Sorry, i was going to share something with you...  but my mom reminded me that it's only to be shared with family and friends during times of distress.
