Subject: Carrara Studio ? or Amapi V6? & Poser which one??

Ive been using the trial vers of Amapi 6. Having started off with Vers. 4.15 With the intention of creating .obj for use in Poser 4. The .obj import/export being the main reason as it allows you to create morphs for the poser objs. I was about to purchase Amapi v6 when I saw Carrara studio. Looked at the features etc & thought. This offers a whole lot more supports .obj. You can create 3D shapes/meshes etc. Am I right in thinking it does most of Amapi 6 & a whole lot more. Or have I got it wrong. Ive got a copy of Ray Dream 3D which came with my Poser 3 package. So to upgrade would be very reasonable. Whats the pros & cons?

If you buy Carrara Studio right now, you get Amapi 5 and all the plugins for Carrara. Carrara is more of an all around 3D package, beautiful renders, animation, great texturing, scene building, and a lot more. Amapi is really just a modeller, but it is a great tool and together it and Carrara are an unbeatable modeling/rendering packaage. You would definately be pleased with upgrading to Carrara.

I would also recommend the Carrara Studio package as it includes Amapi5. Future plans according to antoine Clappiers is to have an Amapi/Carrara Studio type of plugin sometime in the future. Ringo

Thanks for the info/advice. It looks to me that Carrara doesn`t support the import of amapi .a3d format. Is that right? Seems a bit strange.

No, Carrara doesn't import Amapi files directly. But in the future it sounds like there might be some sort of integration between the two. But at least Amapi exports all the major file formats, so bringing your models into Carrara is very easy. And for most, being able to make nurbs models and bring them into Carrara for texturing and rendering is alll that is needed.
