I'll vouch for www.MEETUP.com!  I've joined a couple of Photography Groups here in New Jersey through this site and met some great people.  It's cool getting together and bouncing ideas off each other! Learn by getting out there and DOING!

I joined a meet up group here...most of the "outings" are on a day when I'm working.

But...I've made some new photo friends in this area in the last year..Just trying to get everyones schedule to mesh...

You can join the site for free.  Some of the actual meetups may ask for a fee or dues to offset cost for a particular outing or class they offer.  Each meetup has a description and you can get additional info by contacting the Organizer.
