Subject: WCIF Batlabs free stuff

Lionheart48 ( ) posted Sat, 08 January 2011 at 11:50 AM · edited Sat, 03 August 2024 at 4:57 AM

Awhile back I have downloaded some of BATLabs free stuff @Digital Babes 2, all of his free stuff that he had there, which are great. Recently my computer crashed and burned but my hard drives were still intact, so I got a new computer, took my hard drives and made them slaves to my new computer, moved everything over from my DAZ Studio folder but the next day the hard drive where my DAZ Studio folder was took a nose dive before I got my textures files, so I took it to the computer shop to see what was wrong, he said somehow I lost my FAT System and formatted the Hard Drive before I could say anything, after he did that I said there were some files that were still on there that we needed so he saved the files then reformatted the Drive, but I forgot to tell him that I needed a file that was located in my Programs Folder which I really needed (the Textures Folder from DAZ Studio). To make a long story short I thought I had saved everything when I kept a back up of all my RAR and Zip folders from everything I have downloaded in all the years that I have been using DAZ Studio, but for some reason I can not find any of BAT's files. I followed the link from Poser ++ to Poser Penthouse collection. I need everything there, including the hair but what I really need is the name of the Zip Folders for all of it so I can look for them myself in my folders that I have stored. It was everything for Aiko 3 including the hair Moko, please can anyone help me, at least what the new link is so I can download his wonderful stuff again. I do not want anyone to violate his EULA or his Terms but I really would love to have his free stuff so I can do some renders, thanks.

I think for the most part, you are screwed. You can try web archive tho and see if you can get the old archived pages.

I see that BATLAB still has a store here.  Maybe you can sitemail him for clarification on where items might be now.

Here's the link to webarchive page, I got this one from Acadia.

Edit, I hope it still works.

Perhaps you were in a hurry when you typed this, but Digital Babes is Kozaburo's website, who mostly makes Poser hair models.  Batlab mostly makes clothing items, his website is call Bat laboratory.

That's true, but years ago they hosted one of the clothing giveaways that some of the Japanese sites/content creators used to hold. I remember it well ;o) The one in question was 2003 or 4 maybe? Perhaps even earlier...

Thanks bopper. You are half right jerr3d, Digital Babes is Koz's site and it is still up and running, but there was a site called Digital Babes2 which hosted some of Bat's free stuff, it was Bats Collection (aka Penthouse Collection) which is now closed oh well, but thanks to bopper I got the stuff now, so I can be up and running, still looking for other textures that I may have lost but at least I got this stuff, thanks again for the help.

LaurieA ( ) posted Sun, 09 January 2011 at 11:34 AM

Now you have the fun of making new textures for all those clothes...lol ;o).

That's cool Lionheart48, glad you got your files.  Speaking of Batlab. What happened to his photo gallery? He had about a half dozen rl photos up, but now nothing x.x

Lionheart48 ( ) posted Mon, 10 January 2011 at 2:34 PM

I think Batlab is leaving us, there are quite a few great creators that are now leaving us. Have is one of them, I have not seen anything from Bat for quite awhile, except his other stuff in the Renderosity store here.

I have been trying LaurieA, but I am not a creator of fine textures, mostly don't have the time. I work a graveyard shift at a (gasp) 7-Eleven store and I also run my own home base business when I am not working there, Right now business is a bit slow and I have been working on my E-Store and I was using DAZ Studio to create some stuff to put on there, I have a friend who has his own E-Store where I am at plus a brick and mortar store at a local flea market where he lives on the East Coast who also uses DAZ Studio and Poser to create some of his artwork that he uses for his website, plus, he has more time then I do, creates some of his own stuff that he sells here. Lately though seeing what has happen to my old computer I have been trying to get everything back. I had thought I had saved some of Bats older works in a folder on my other slave drive but for some strange reason it had disappeared. I normally keep everything just is case, even some of my DAZ's stuff. And that is another story, lol. I made the mistake of getting Quest here (a local phone company that also has DSL) and when they installed their DSL they also installed MicroSofts One Care, an antivirus program which after starting up started to scan my whole computer including my slave drive, on that slave drive was DAZ's self installers of some of my stuff, well it thought they were all viruses and wiped them all out so now all I have left are just a folder of nothing but icons of everything I got from DAZ Studio, freebies and payed for, some of them were irreplacable, but the rest I got back. Now I get to have the headache of replacing my DAZ stuff once again, but now at least all I need are just the Textures for everything. OK, I think I rambled on long enough, thanks again for all the help folks.

LaurieA ( ) posted Mon, 10 January 2011 at 3:03 PM

Yeah, Bat hasn't been around for awhile and has the same freebie on his site that's been there for a couple years now...

For one reason or another, people drift away. Maybe their priorities change or their hobbies ;o).

Ah, Microsoft. Gotta love 'em.

"No, it's not a virus, One Care, it's precious data that can't be found anywhere anymore."

Sometimes you gotta wonder: are they really that demented out there in Redmond, (WA - in this case, WA is Washington, not Western Australia) to come up with some of the "safeguards" they do. They have a long way to go before they even get close to Ubuntu usability.

sigh, I know. Still looking for some Zip folders, was up half the night looking, found out I lost all the textures for FK Designs hairs, sigh, what else is new and I can not seem to be able to find my zip folders for FK's work, found only one or or two of her stuff so far. Mostly just FK's Fairy Dresses. ok does anyone have the link to Baron's old site, need some of his old stuff and he uses self installers for it, need the SWAT set for A3 and V3, sigh One Care messed those up to, and I can not use Baron's stuff without the textures, dang this is a pain in the arse...I rather be asking for some new content instead of bothering you guys with old stuff.

The SWAT outfits and BVH's other former freebies are no longer available that I know of. Hopefully someone else knows different ;o).

Lionheart48 ( ) posted Tue, 11 January 2011 at 10:58 AM

Yeh I saw the site was down, I was hoping someone had the link for the "WayBack Machine" so I can download it again, I only have a couple of his free stuff including Toxic ll for V3 and A3 as well as his SWAT set for A3 and V3 as well as some hair that he had there, also have a couple of his stuff from here as well that I had paid for, hope I can get it back through my purchase history. I have to problems with the rest of the stuff, just no textures, guess I am getting old and senile I could have swore that I moved my textures folder over to this new hard drive before My old hard drive crashed but I guess I didn't. I figured when I told the tech when He saved my folders that he was going to save ALL the folders, should have specified that he needed to save DAZ Studio's folder so I could have checked to see if the Textures Folder was there and moved it over if it was.

LaurieA ( ) posted Tue, 11 January 2011 at 11:02 AM

BVH's old sites are not on the Wayback Machine yet. I checked...lol. The initial pages show up, but the freebies haven't been backed up yet.

Thanks Laurie, I may have to wait for a bit. I have an E-Store and was hoping do put some sort of Law Enforcement women on my front page. I have a Sexy Officer uniform that I can use for V3, was hoping to find something for free for V4 that I can use for now but I guess I can wait, V3 is still good and just got her the Officer Uniform from BAT. Part of his BAT-RMP collection.

Thanks icprncss, will see what I can do. Would love to try and get it back. Basically all I need is just the texture files, I have the outfits but unless I have the textures or can make my own I can not use them, hmmm that is a thought though should try to do some textures of my own, any suggestions anyone?

Get yourself a copy of GIMP if you don't currently have a paint program. In addition to that, there are all sorts of sources on the web for textures:

http://www.cgtextures.com/

http://freetextures.3dtotal.com/index.php

http://www.imageafter.com/

among many others.

If you have any questions about using a texture template, just ask in the open forum or sitemail me if you like. I've been doing textures for a lot of years as have many, many other folks 'round here ;o). The beauty of it is that it's really not that difficult.

Lionheart48 ( ) posted Thu, 13 January 2011 at 1:53 PM

it looks simple, I have Corel Paint Pro X for my paint work, or tubes if I decide to do Tubes, my wife does mostly those though, I made an agreement with her that I don't learn to do Tubes her one hobby that she is good at, I think she is afraid I might surpass her, lol. Seriously though, it does look simple, its just the time involved. Ok here is another question, do I have to have the textures of any outfit from the creator themselves before I apply another texture or can I use any texture that I have found (or created) for the outfit (or body). I have a few outfits that I have no textures for seeing my texture file got deleted and I have been downloading the same files or found in my backup zip folders but not all of them are there, and I have been going back to the same sites where I got them. Like 3D Commune for instance, only to find the sites are closed down now. But I have found other creators have created textures for those same outfits or characters for free, granted its not the same textures but different altogether, the question though is can I still use them?

LaurieA ( ) posted Thu, 13 January 2011 at 2:18 PM · edited Thu, 13 January 2011 at 2:19 PM

If you download a free texture for a particular outfit, the usage rights are normally in the readme. If you download a generic texture that you'd like to use IN your clothing texture, check the usage rights of the site you got it from. Imageafter and the three links I posted above allow commercial usage even if included in a texture map.

If what you mean is how you get the texture on the model when you only have the model, all you need is a copy of UVMapper Classic. That will allow you to create a template for that model on which to paint so that all your textures land in the right places ;o).

Lionheart48 ( ) posted Thu, 13 January 2011 at 2:27 PM

ummm, what I mean Laurie, can I use an alternate texture on a blank item. I have the files still installed in my DAZ folder (obj, cr2 etc files) but for the most part I don't have the textures for those particalur Items seeing that they went bye-bye. Now I do have quite a few zip folders that I did back up but for some reason some of my zips (and RAR) folders disappeared, just a few but everytime I load an item I get a message from DAZ that it could not find a certain texture and when I try to manually load the texture from my runtime/textures folder the file is not there, of course I am going to say cancel then skip, etc for all the textures that DAZ can not find for that item, then the item loads and I have a non-textured item (all white). I do have some freebie textures from another creator for that item, and I was wondering if I can load those on the item to give it a texture?

LaurieA ( ) posted Thu, 13 January 2011 at 2:30 PM

Sure, you can do that :o).

Laurie

Lionheart48 ( ) posted Thu, 13 January 2011 at 2:38 PM

great, I have some High Fashion clothes for V3 but for some reason it all went bye bye (the zip folders) but I just downloaded some texture files for those particular outfits from Pretty3D, and I just checked my download history from there and those items were not there ( and I feel embarrased to ask for it again, and really embarrased if I have to pay for them again) oh heck you know what I mean (I hope). Now I can use the outfits, lol...

Lionheart48 ( ) posted Thu, 20 January 2011 at 12:29 PM

Thanks for the help everyone, so far I got almost everything of Bats back, with the exception of his CanCan outfit, still trying though, not to worried though, I hardly use that outfit anyways, lol.

Now a very big question, its about a character I downloaded for V3 awhile back. I still have her morphs but I lost the texture, her name is Sally. Sally is an older woman and the creator did it as an ode to older women, he had just her that was a freebie but there were others that he was selling also older women, not a super model but she looked pretty good in some of my renders. What I was trying to do is find her, and I think I got her in the freebies here but now I can not find her. I though she would look great as a cop (seeing that I just bought an outfit for my police renders for my store) but as I said I have her morphs but lost the textures, tried looking in all my folders that I housed my zips as well as my rars files but nowhere to be found. I think I have a black hole that just sucks up zip and rar files. lol. Just point me in the right direction so I can redownload her, bottom line on Sally is I can not remember who the wonderful creator was, but he did a great job on her.

btw, for some of the other missing folders I am glad some stores keep back ups, whew, thought I was going to have to rebuy a lot of stuff. With the exception of Alexa2 I got a lot of my stuff back, a lot of other stuff I can not get back because the sites are down and gone so I just deleted those files, nothing major on those anyways, lol...Thanks for the assist on the other parts that I was looking for.

Sounds like the characters from DoctorJo.  Has a series of them called, 'In Praise of Older Women'.

No Sally on the website though, the freestuff area on it is:

Several other older V3 characters though.

Ok, got em, just not Sally, sigh oh well. I need opinions though, here is a render that I did using DoctorJo's Helen's Tex file, Sally's Morphs, V3, 3Dream's History Hair and BatLabs Cop Uniform. Its a work in progress right now, for my store but I thought I may get some opinions here about what she looks like and if any improvements. Thanks..

hobepaintball ( ) posted Fri, 21 January 2011 at 8:25 AM

Had a close call with a virus trying to track down BVH Studios Swat for V3 and gave up. Your render could use some SWAT type shoes.

Lionheart48 ( ) posted Fri, 21 January 2011 at 8:38 AM

That is what I thought as well, I have the SWAT outfit but seeing that BVH used self installers I can not get the textures, and the self installers I had got wiped out by MicroSofts OneCare (it thought it was a virus so deleted all the content, just left me the icon). And seeing that BVH closed Planet Vixen I no longer can get the product (even though it was a freebie), so I can only use what I can use. I may look into retexturing it using DAZ Studio, the only problem with that is if it has any metallic material I may have a problem, I can only use what DAZ gives me color wise. Sigh***But Bats products are not to bad, hmmm I will see what else I have that I could save. Some of my zip and rar files went AWOL, lol, still looking for them. There in my folder somewhere, I just got to figure out where I put them, unless I made the mistake of keeping them on my old master hard drive that is now a slave drive which got reformatted, ouch now I would be getting senile if I did that, lmao....

hobepaintball ( ) posted Fri, 21 January 2011 at 8:50 AM

Yep, I'm super paranoid about my 3 years of paid and unpaid downloads. Have triple redundancy on that stuff.

AS for the boots just use the eye dropper to make them black then go into material room and tweek it so it has some specularity.

Lionheart48 ( ) posted Fri, 21 January 2011 at 9:07 AM

Have done that on a few stuff where I lost the texture files to, like FK Designs Hair, for some strange reason I can not for the life of me remember where I purchased them. I thought it was here at renderosity but I looked in my accounts and the files are not there, same thing with DAZ Studio. The only thing I can think of is 3D Commune which is no longer with us, I have bought quite a few items there, like Alexa2 and some of her GHD morphs, to which I still have thank god man I really hit the panic button on that one, lol, spent to much money on Alexa, only have a couple of textures of hers that I don't have but mostly on her the rest I have. Wait, does DAZ Studio have a material room? I did not know that, hmmm, I should look....lol....

Cariad ( ) posted Fri, 21 January 2011 at 9:09 AM

I have all the old BVH freebies thankfully, including the scenery that was out for a contest on planetvixens a few years back.   I know his current site says he will only be supporting his new figures.  Pity, the SWAT outfit was hugely useful.  Pieces were great for modern, sci-fi, cyberpunk type scenes.

I think I am going to make an extra copy of them just in case, I wouldn't want to have to try to find them again.

Could try the Bossy Boots 2 on sharecg.  Might have to fidget with them since they are for V4, but it is the closest I can think of that are free.

http://www.sharecg.com/v/39961/gallery/Poser/Bossy-Boots-2.0---Vicki-4

I know there is the sensible shoes too, and there is a fit for V3 in Headkase's gallery there.

http://www.sharecg.com/pf/full_uploads.php?pf_user_name=Headkase

As it is I am trying to find the old battlemech freebies from John Malis I think.  I had both that were on RDNA at one point, but have lost them (okay they are on my kid's dad's computer, but I no longer have access to it).  Want the Madcat especially, does anyone have any idea where they might be found?

Fabiana (FK-Designs) used to sell on 3D Commune. You could ask her directly via sitemail... she might be willing to help you with this, if you know specifically which texture set you've lost.

But like HobePaintball, I'm super-paranoid about anything to do with Microsoft products. OneCare, for instance, to me is pretty much a virus. Well, it behaved like one.

Now no one but me touches my computer, that way I know what goes on it. I know exactly which textures, lot of her hair products that I got and a few of her fairy stuff, got lucky on that though still have the zip folder for that, I have a few zip folders that has the title 3D Commune, that is why I figured I got her stuff from  there but was not sure. At least I don't have any problems with Runtime DNA, got quite a lot of freebies from there, don't think I bought anything from there, except Laroo 2 stuff. Need to look over there and see what I can get for her hair, for some reason her hair is not showing up, been like that since I got her, nothing to do with missing zips, lol....
