Subject: Crew Cut Hair

basicwiz ( ) posted Wed, 12 January 2011 at 10:27 AM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 9:33 PM

Does anyone know of a good, realistic crew cut hair for M4? I've got V4 Boy Hair, which is terrible, and Daz's Flat top which is...well... a flat top and not a crew cut. Surely I'm not the only one trying to render a soldier!

Secondarily... Where would one get a skull cap for M4 so that a hairpiece could be grown in the hair room? Or can you just grow it directly on his head?

Great, maybe not, but free so the price is right to at least have a peek.

Is the add on for it

Well, you're right... not a bad package for free at all!

But it's still not what I am needing: a true military crew cut.

Anyone else with suggestions?

Over at Poser Addicts or Male Poserotica, Channing has a free military crew cut in his free exercise clothing set. You might have to fiddle with the transmaps, unless he fixed those, but once tweaked, it's very nice.

No probs, was just the first I thought of.  More than decent for the price.  I see enough crew cuts at home (my kids dad is former Canadian Forces and cuts the boys hair for them) so I don't tend to use extremely short  hair alot, enough fuzzy scalps as it is. :p

Jefsview...

Perfect! Many thanks!

Rhionan...

Understand perfectly. And thanks for the suggestion... it's not what I needed now, but there will come a day when I WILL use it!

But a flat top is not a crew cut. And by the way the flat top looks like crap today in a decent Poser 8 or Poser Pro 2010 render, that was made for the Millennium Men and the Poser 4 figures.

basicwiz ( ) posted Thu, 13 January 2011 at 2:37 PM

I agree. We could use a new flat top as well.

BTW.... does anyone know what to do to Channing's crew cut to make the transmaps work right? A post of the material room settings on this would sure help me out. Jefsview?

The Spartacos product here includes a very believable short hair bonus. It is not as short as a buzz cut.

basicwiz:

As a futher thought, could you provide a picture (or link to a picture) that illustrates what you are looking for? Several shots would be better. Googleing the terms used in this thread produces quite a range of interpretations for crew-cut, flat-top, buzz-cut, etc.

A number of the best hair content providers do read these forums.

He has hair included and is coming soon.  The hair looks like it would be what you need, and the fellow looks like a keeper.

This is promotion or? Because there is neither a crew cut nor is there a hair prop or figure because there are only textures with hair.

tsquare ( ) posted Wed, 19 January 2011 at 7:38 AM

No, but short hair comes with the first, and the second has painted short hair and I thought they were worth a mention.

I shall try hard not to be helpful next time.

tsquare...

Thank you for pointing me at these. I appreciate it.

I'm not sure why it is always necessary to "beat up" people like you and me who try to be helpful, but that seems to be the rule here. Please rest assured that your help was appreciated by the OP... which is me!

Thanks again!

you are welcome, basicwiz

mackis3D ( ) posted Thu, 20 January 2011 at 2:13 PM

Oh Basicwiz I had no idea you would welcome finding a texture with short hair. I would have given links directly to Renderosity... not to DAZ. I can't understand why people in this forum react so rude if someone is answering a question as close as possible. :-)

basicwiz ( ) posted Fri, 21 January 2011 at 10:12 AM

It was not the texture, but the actual short hair in the first package that interested me.

I continue to be irritated when people criticize forum members for attempting to be helpful. THAT, to me, is the rudeness that permeates these discussion areas. Point out the error, if there is one... don't accuse the poster of promotion or other misbehavior.

Looking for something similar for a movie project, but hair slows down the render even when it's very short. Anyone know a good tutorial for adding short stubbly hair to the mat an bump?
