Subject: Skin and hair sets for Victoria 4

ThisGuiltyPleasure ( ) posted Sat, 22 January 2011 at 7:57 AM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 1:27 PM

Can anyone recommend me some skin and hair sets for Victoria 4?

I just need a few good hairstyles in my library, as a starting point.

Also, while I'm happy with the V4 skin, are there any recommendations for skintones of other ethnicities?

Check the free section here @ Rendo' and ShareCG.  Reciecup has some very nice Afro skin textures I highly recommend.  Depending on your needs, Bagginbills' VSSProp contains a material room skin texture shaders which can transform ordinary textures into something much more spectacular.

If you like the skin, but like more tones, you can put a HSV node between diffise color and the skin.

A lot of them are in Freebies here (as mentioned). Make sure you go in using 'details', rather than 'downoload' if you want textures. A lot of the offerings are morphs only; and some folks are nice enough to mention that (wish more did...;) There's a lot more morphed V4 characters without textures than with (seems to be a V3 thang for actual textures...;)

Keep an eye on the sales and specials at all the main sites (Renderosity, Daz, RuntimeDNA, Content Paradise etc). Put pricey items that you like on your wish list and buy them when they are marked down.  If you are impatient, you spend more (speaking from experience). In the meantime, collect as much good free stuff as you can. The free skins here and at Sharecg have already been mentioned, but don't forget that skins for Aiko 4 and The Girl 4 can also be used with V4.

If you find a good free hair item, snap it up, even if it was made for another figure. Hair is very adaptable from one figure to another.

Adamthwaites's site (Most digital creations) is a consistent source of quality skins and they are very well priced.

Rather than name a particular hair, I'd would suggest a couple of vendors who make nice hair sets.

Here at Renderosity, you can search in the market place under Poser, then V4, and then under hair to see images of the products for sale.  I buy a lot of 3Dream & Mairy products. Look their stuff up and you'll see a variety of styles. I also use some of their body textures. They also sell under the same name over at Daz.

At Daz, I would also look at Neftis3D. You can also search over at Daz under hair, and see pictures of what's for sale.

There are other good vendors, but I've had good luck with these. If there was a particular style you were interested in, maybe post that info.

Good luck

Daz often has hair up in their fastgrab category, so if you are looking to build a hair collection, that can be a good way to do it on the cheap. Neftis is great, and I like April's too over there.  Some great ones here too, I love Studioartvartian  hair.  Sparticos and Eros are versatile.  Lots of the hair has options to make it longer, shorter, change things about it.

PDesign has some lovely textures on her models - I often use PD Sam, Leo, and Gabriel on my other male figures just because they render very nicely, and her girls are lovely too.  She has her stuff on sale sometimes.   Jepe makes great guys at Daz.

Godin is another good one, I think and Phoenix1966 has some here and also at daz that are really go to textures for me.

Reciecup here has some lovely African characters, just beautiful and they have fantasy options too.

The ones I gave are Michael and Victoria (Daz characters) oriented, since that is what I use.  Others may have suggestions for good Miki or other poser characters texutures, and I believe there are programs to convert textures between characters.

I found this script at Runtime DNA  Advanced Texture Variation

http://www.runtimedna.com/Advanced-Figure-Variation.html

It's really awesome.  With it you can have a few nice textures, but then use this to give darker skin, light tan, even fantasy options like orc, elf and goblin.  With a few tweaks I made a blue that I overlayed over one of PD's guy's textures to do this piece

The original skin was pale, but I used the RBG options and the color opacity to make that.  Also.. used it on this

(warning NSFW link!!!)

For a fantasy piece with harpies, to give a slight shading difference to two of the textures to add variety.  It's a lovely script, highly useful.

Anyways, also check out ShareCG for free stuff, they have a ton of stuff over there that you can use, hair,  faces, body morphs, textures, clothes.. etc.

and have fun!

Thanks everyone for the recommendations. They've been added to my bookmarks. I'm particulary excited about ShareCG. They seem to have a wider range of V4 freebies than Renderosity.

In general, for anything Poser, grab it when you can (mainly freebies). I'm restocking P8 rather than just lumpin' all the P5 stuff in, and it's amazing how many sites just stopped carrying things, gone 404 (if I see that girl with the schoolbooks advertising another site...;), or generally not found.

Whatever3d (if not mentioned, if mentioned, ignore this) can be your friend.
