Blender F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 01 9:08 pm)
Thanks Laurie! That gets me understanding the kd/ks files (and there is a bump which is pretty self explanatory :)
The million dollar question then is there a way to import where it includes the material/texture information?
In this OBJ, I have more than 71 meshes...multiplied by an average of 3 textures per, is a manual process of assigning over 200 images. Hmmm... :-O
I see after OBJ export, there is a MTL file there, and a MAPS folder with all the images in there...
with most .obj, the texture maps are more likely to be imported if they're in the same root folder as the object. Still a daunting task for all those textures, I know ;o). I'm not entirely certain this works in Blender since I haven't tried importing anything, but it works in every other program I've imported .obj into :o).
Laurie
Laurie.....one word....
Brilliant!!!
I moved the OBJ and MTL into the directory with the images, and Voila! Even though the path was /MAPS/images...it still needed to be in same directory.
Some of them are not rendering yet but they all look to be assigned (i.e. top has a color/texture, but the skin does not), but I've got a Pinewood Derby to worry about right now.
I'll be back!
Wow, Laurie... thanks for that. Just read this: now, you're a Blenderite, whether you want to be or not.

OK, so I am able to get either a nice OBJ export or a Collada Export into Blender, but one key thing missing is the materials and textures (to be honest, I still need to understand the difference), like the skin, cloth, etc.
Unfortunately, in a DAZ forum thread, it talks about using the Collada DAE export, but I lose my pose for all the objects (they go back to the default) so thats not working for me.
Back to the OBJ import, it is all as designed, but if I select an object, them go to the material tab, I see stuff like "SkinTorso" etc... but the textures are not linked to the files. They say like "kd.019" etc...
Be nce to have this automatic, but if not an option right now, how about knowing what the kd.### descriptions mean so I can manually assign?
I am running the latest Blender 2.56 that has Luxrender included.
Thanks for any help!
