Subject: Changes to Poser post Version 6

blizzard ( ) posted Fri, 28 January 2011 at 5:42 PM · edited Wed, 15 January 2025 at 11:32 PM

I'm still using Version 6 but was wondering if there is any kind of gather or collect utility in the newer versions.

Version 7 or above?
To streamline the task of outputting scenes or wardrobe to one file for selling purposes?

I vaguley remember something like this being on a past wish list.

Version 6 still has it's quirks & bugs.

One thing that still bothers me is the difference in some lighting from preview to render.
I was wondering if they got a better preview with the latest versions?

Version 7, 8 or 2010.

How does versions 7 or 8 compare to version 6.

Did they really get things right this time?

Not knocking there efforts I've loved poser since version 3 but it definetly had/has room for improvement.

Many & Much Thanks.

Scott

Poser 7/8 each have some improvements From ver. 7 to 8 the python version broke some scripts  Ver.8 allows cr2 etc files to be moved around within the runtime/Library files and gained 64 bit bits there is a gather files script in both

So is that TTFN or TANSTAAFL?

The biggest difference s between 6 & 7 that I remember, was more stability and multiple undos.

Poser 8 has indirect lighting,an improved interface, and the render engine has been updated to render stranded hair better.

I'm sure there is more that the gurus can tell you about

No new/improved character animation tools worth mentioning it seems.

IDL alone is worth the upgrade to 8/PPro2010. Previews are not as nice as P7 because of new lighting tech. Although, it's easy to make a "correct" click-on lightset to work with before using the "real" render lightset.. Too fussy for me but,,,

P7 was my least favorite upgrade. P6sr3 was very stable. P5-P7 will only give you black shadows. PPro 2010, though counterintuitive for me, produces the best quality renders I've ever made in Poser. IDL being the real star and it is stable.  Watch for sales. I'd skip P7, P8

I'm leaning towards actually buying 2010.

I heard the rigging/skeleton is easeier to work now?
Course I get that from there sales so only non bias users could truely answer that, least for me. Version 6 was/is hard to manipulate.

No new charatctor animation tools. :-(

Thats a drag, one of the last areas I played in before my break form 3d (so long ago) was animation.

I was getting the hang of it but again it seemed like an area with lots of room for improvement.

Thanks for all the replies.

Umm...Poser 6 has the Collect Scene Inventory python script right under the Python>Utilities window.

so...there is no real improvement(save the IDL lighting) to p8?

I have a 32bit system so I cant go pp2010.

so in other words.....I am best to stay with my lovely lil p6:)?

Poser Pro 2010 runs just fine in 32 bit! In fact, I tend to run it in 32 bit often because in 64 bit you have less Video Codec options for saving out Animations using 64 bit! A LOT Less!

But I thought pp2010 was only for a 64bit system.....

Nope, not true.  PP 2010 can run under both 32- & 64- bit.

SteveJax ( ) posted Sat, 29 January 2011 at 9:06 PM

Nopey dopey! As Hborre and I have said, it runs under both and be glad of that. There are few, and I mean VERY FEW, 64 bit video codecs! No 64 Bit DivX yet, nor xVid and I could go on and list all the ones available to Poser Pro 2010 running in 32 bit that just aren't accessable when running in 64 bit mode.

steve, do yourself a favour. don't render directly to video. render to a sequence of stills. you'll get better control.

Airport security is a burden we must all shoulder. Do your part, and please grope yourself in advance.
