Subject: crowd scenes

send in the clones for poser, unfortunately only works for .obj, so if you want to make crowds you have to save your posed figures as .obj. (or you could just clone props if you want to make other scenes with say a lot of boxes) Anyway Ijust got an email that the software is on sale at daz at the moment.

there's a DS version that can actually clone figures, but I don't use DS at the moment as I like poser much better.

theres a freebie at sharecg that uses billboard figures. That is somewhat limiting but works fine for background crowds.

yes, I have it too.  and the AZL crowd mom stuff.  but sometimes you just need people dressed a certain way, eg an assault team or army guys.

Powerage has a product called "Movement of Mass" that is crowd generator for Poser.

I havent tried M.O.M yet but its definately on my list.  I shudder at the old days of doing it the hard way with a cube and a texture or the like.

I will someties use vue and import PZ3s and make eco systems out of them

but I like to stick in poser where i can because it's easier and I toon in poser.

I do the same thing, VUE can use still or animated PZ3s in Ecosystems. Millions are possible. For less ambitiose numbers the reduced resolution Daz characters are almost a must if you want to excede 10 people inside Poser. unless its just a bunch of naked bald people, then you can squeze in a few more. Everytime I finish a Poser scene I save the character out to my green room. These folks are easily placed into later projects as background people.

I assume you know about the loretta lorez character and her male equiv. over at Daz. I use them quite a bit to fill in backgrounds.

How many characters are you trying for? I've been able to get renders done with as many as eight full res Mike/Vickies at the same time. About the only problem I had was the posing interface got a little sluggish, but once posed, it rendered like a champ.

How does MOM work exactly?  Does it use Poer figures or is it just a collection of pre-rendered Poser figures for use as alpha billboards?

basicwiz ( ) posted Thu, 03 February 2011 at 1:29 PM

It is the latter.

I think it's the best solution out of it's kind, but I still prefer to populate my sceme with lorez figures.

ShawnDriscoll ( ) posted Thu, 03 February 2011 at 6:29 PM

Ok.  I already have plenty of billboard alpha figures.

I'm not trying to push it, I have M.O.M. and don't use it, but ...

There's a little more to it than just figures on splats.  The planes are coordinated and can be shuffled.  If you put 10 or 50 characters in a scene, you can quickly move them around with the controls.

I think the vendor should have done a better job of helping users create their own characters for the splats.  It's very arcane.

You may use also the LoRes Figures of V4 and M4, 1k - 2k - -4k or 17k, for background scenes, clothes will fit and they can be posed like the standard figures

I've never really used those lo rez figures but I suppose I should try them.

I have loretta lorez and the male equivalent one from daz which I quite like.
