Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
In the previous mention of this, Laurie, you cited P6, P7 and P8. I use PP2010. Would that be considered like P8, since output and interface are essentially similar?
Monterey/Mint21.x/Win10 - Blender3.x - PP11.3(cm) - Musescore3.6.2

Oh, and in case anyone was wondering, this is continuing develpment of the project previously known as LuxPose ;o). I'll have more images to show at some point.
Here's a couple from the other thread:

ooh! i guess i can add my new render(only) machine! Win11, I7, RTX 3060 12GB
Fantastic! Sucks that there isn't more enthusiasm for this, I love using Luxrender.

I don't have the experience with LuxRender right to to be a tester, but I'm glad to see progress being made.
I do have a copy of Poser 6 around somewhere, and still have Poser 7 installed, so if you get desperate...

Hey, let people some time to notice something new happened! We only noticed this because my GF kept looking into the old thread in hope something might happen.
(Also, once bitten, twice shy (or some such)... :-p)
That been said, we were planning to keep lurking, but if you lack testers, I have P6, P8 and PP2010 installed (several licenses on different computers), we have some basic understanding of LuxRender as you might remember, so we could test stuff. Our schedule is rather full, but I think we might manage to commandeer a couple hours for testing every day or two.

I've been following the first thread, and I'll be following this one...
I would love to test, but don't have the time.
I am pretty sure, there are plenty of users looking forward to Pose2Lux and able to test...
They just have to stumble across this thread :-)
Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.
Well, I don't have my old equipment with me to test out versions 6 and 7, but soon as I get my new rig functioning properly, I should be able to see what I can help out with.
I'm still very interested in what LuxRender and Poser can do, even though I'm beginning to model my own characters and outfits in other programs.
For those people who have never used LuxRender before, or even for people who've started already. A brand new and clear tutorial for new users has just appeared on the luxrender wiki and also a more advanced render settings document.
New Users: http://www.luxrender.net/wiki/New_User_Tips_and_Tricks
Render Settings: http://www.luxrender.net/wiki/LuxRender_Render_settings
That should get everybody up & running with LuxRender.

Would be much easier to post a download and let everybody have at it.
People seemed to be able to cope with rapid fire updates in the original thread, and you never know but you might also get a few bug fixes and improvement suggestions.

i couldn't agree more, i can test only on week-end but i am sitting in front of three machines and i can run three different versions of poser at the same time. poser6 for the oldest machine, poser 7 or poser 8 for the second, and Poser Pro and Poser Pro 2010 for the third

The author wants to keep the testing group small for this phase. He wants a certain amount of features in it when it goes alpha and wants to spend that time coding rather than answering a million and one questions ;o). I can't really blame him...he works better and faster this way ;o) You'll all have something to play with soon enough - he's going to release the alpha to the masses. Then we'll all have a chance to make suggestions and find our own bugs...lol. Really though, he has very good ideas for what goes in it and I don't think anyone will be disappointed in the end. He did his homework and read the whole LuxPose thread as well as the wiki wishlists and what-not and he's nearly religious about keeping up at the Luxrender forums. I think part of the reason that the LuxPose programmers walked away was because they got tired and exasperated ;o).
Be patient. Won't be long ;o).

Quote - reducing fireflyies? is this a post process? because then it blurs it out.
Nope. If you mean does it use noise reduction, no. It's all done during the scene export. Don't ask me how it's done. I'm not the programmer. I only know that it's something that gets put in the luxrender file. And it doesn't cause blurring.
Laurie
no, it's not a post process but part of the render process. do a search on the Luxrender forums for details. it's already part of the latest Luxblend build and in Pose2Lux (and it works nicely thankyou)

Just a reminder to keep in mind:
This is one guy making a plugin. Not a company, not a team. Out of respect for his time and effort, if you don't have the time to test, or don't know how to use the program, please have some patience and let those who do have time and know how to use Luxrender test Pose2Lux.
Thanks!

If anybody (like me) plans to make first his/hers feet wet with Lux with simple things (like a cube ) this tutorial for Blender should be a good help.
GIMP 2.7.4, Inkscape 0.48, Genetica 3.6 Basic, FilterForge 3 Professional, Blender 2.61, SketchUp 8, PoserPro 2012, Vue 10 Infinite, World Machine 2.3, GeoControl 2

can you change the subsurface scale? because on the girl the SSS is to big. not in strength. but in scale.
Please note that this is a PRE-ALPHA release.
This means that it will probably have bugs in it, that it might not run on all platforms or behave nicely with all Poser scenes. There are features that haven't been written yet, and some of those that have been are only drafts and are subject to further development.
This isn't intended to be a working tool at this stage - it's an opportuntiy for you to see where it's going.
Having said that, those of us working on it have already had a lot of fun with it and been able to get some good renders out of it.
It should be used with the latest version of Luxrender (version 0.8RC). Performance with older versions will either be interesting or frustrating, depending upon your outlook in life.
There is no user guide yet, but there will be a quickstart guide for the alpha release and a proper manual when it reaches beta.
This zip file contains the main Python script Pose2Lux.pyc. It's the only file you need from the archive and it can be saved to and run from any folder. Probably :-)
For Poser 6 users, use the Pose2LuxP6.pyc instead. It is functionally identical to Pose2Lux.pyc.

it's a great script, very easy to use & fantastic results. thank you!

Calling all Luxrender fans and previous LuxPose testers: we are looking for testers.
You can sitemail either me or Magnus Greel if you'd like to participate. Please be advised that it will require a certain amount of committment and if you aren't willing or can't take the time, please don't ask to be a tester. Also be advised that while it's been coming along fine thus far, we haven't even reached alpha yet - some things that you might want may not have yet been included.
You may sitemail either me or Magnus Greel and we'll get you setup for testing. Please include your Poser version and operating system in your sitemail. We are looking for 2 Poser 8 users, at least one of those a Mac user (assuming Mac can run Python), Poser 7 users and Poser 6 users. It doesn't support anything below version 6
The Pose2Lux exporter is a purely Python exporter that will export your scenes from Poser so that they can be rendered in Luxrender. So far it has displacement support, all texture map support, Luxrender materials assignment, emitters, custom light groups, choices for samples and filters and camera settings, saving of settings and of material settings and very soon support for dynamic hair. There's quite a bit more that I didn't mention. If you're interested in testing, please see above. We have only a few openings at the moment. It's preferrable that you already know how to use Luxrender.
Thanks! :o)
