Subject: Do Not Post about the Messiah 3-D Promotion - it violates TOS!

Quote - I found scaling V4 up to the sam size as the auto rigging works the best instead of fitting the skeleton to V4.

I hope you did the scaling before the mesh went into Messiah. Apparently scaling your mesh inside messiah is a bad, bad idea that will haunt you and cause you to use workmanlike language later.

arcebus ( ) posted Sun, 13 February 2011 at 6:17 AM

I wonder if it would be ok to share messiah rigs for proprietary DAZ and Poser figures?

Of course it would. That's math formulas for messiah, has nothing to do with the base char's.

I also wonder if it isn't perhaps time to scale all my Poser meshes up to life size.

I'm doing most of my modelling work in Mudbox and Silo, so a base library of lifesize meshes is a must. Mudbox has serious problems with the brushes on the micro-(smith)scaled Poser figures.*

Don't know why you say that. It worked just fine for me.

I read it in a few places on Setuptab forum and maybe CGtalk>Messiah forum. The pros seemed adamant that it's an inviolable rule. Apparently scaling is really problematic in animation, the verts are no longer where they appear to be and it can screw things up big time down the line.

Tashar59 ( ) posted Sun, 13 February 2011 at 6:47 AM

But V4 screws up if you don't. All my tests show this.

Whoa there pardnuh ... I don't know what's pushing up what. 😄

All I know* is what I read in the funny papers.

OK. I found out why V4 would not work unlesss I scaled her up. I was scaling the wrong part of the skeleton. If I scale the skeleton Master first it works fine. I was scaling the next one down.

Oh well. It works both ways for me. LOL. So if the pros say not to scale the mesh in Messiah, they know what they are talking about.

I'm sure there will be other silly mistakes before I figure it all out. Doh!

Quote - Just noticed this news from the DAZ Messiah thread. In addition to a USB ThumbDrive, you will need a Video Card that supports OpenGL 1.2. Looks like I'm gonna need a new card.

Do you have the latest driver for your card? I have an old ATI that wouldn't work with Open GL 1.2 until I updated the driver. Then it was fine and the proggies that wouldn't work were fine.

operaguy ( ) posted Sun, 13 February 2011 at 9:11 AM

i really count on morphing V4 into particular body shapes in Poser. I've got that down. this includes the head/face. Basically, creating the girl.

theoretically, I like the idea of clothing in Poser and removing unneeded polys, too. But for dynamic, you have to have two models, the actual body and then the clothing, so they can collide.

putting it politely: for a femme especially, both have to be "soft body" for realism.

I'm sure this work flow, including the scaling, will become clear to me.

C'mon pmG, enough waiting already! Announce that you've met your goal (if there was one it was probably vague anyway) or announce that we got close enough, and start issuing licences.

Leave the offer open for a few more days if you want to scoop up the latecomers, but start the licences in the meantime.

Fiddling with rigs when you can't save anything is torture :o(

I am crossing my fingers that it doesn't finish before I get some extra cash in hand later this week.  Ah well, maybe I can convince my mother to put it on her credit card for me.

Sometimes my policy of no credit cards and not spending money I don't have at that moment sucks.  Mind you it keeps me from being more in debt than I am...

Tashar59 ( ) posted Mon, 14 February 2011 at 3:33 PM

It has. CGsociety. Also someone did an animation that they all raved about. Then you should have seen the major wig out when they were told it was done using Poser as one of the main tools. It was fun to watch.

The real pros in the field don't care what the tool is if it does what they need at the time they need it.

grace period.

also: read the fine print: expect it to take a few days to finalize your license.

"Due to the overwhelming response, we are in the process of updating the license system to better automate the management of everyone generating their licenses. We have a 3 day delay in finalizing the transactions, and downloading them into the system. We hope to have license generation up by Saturday or perhaps sooner. You will be getting an email to the email address you provided paypal when you purchased, that will contain the url and login info to generate your license for your purchase or purchases(if you did them in more than one transaction)."

no problem for me, personally, i hope everyone stays cool.
