Subject: Transpose AutoCad Contours to Vue Terrain

cmckenzie ( ) posted Sun, 27 June 2010 at 11:17 PM · edited Wed, 05 February 2025 at 8:01 AM

Can anyone help me with a workflow to create Vue Terrains that conform to contour data exported out of Autocad or conversely is there a way to sculpt using an imported object as a reference.

I am an Architect the abilitiy to create accurate terrains is important. I have tried importing DEM data but the scale is to large for a site specific file. I have tried using the Terrain editor but I cannot find anything similar to Sketchup's drape function which would be perfect for what I am looking for.

Any ideas would be welcome

Thanks

What size of terrain are we talking about?  A county? A city block?  A house lot?

A fairly large terrain...about 100 acres

cmc - I just "friended" you through Renderosity. I was trying to send you a message, but this is just as good.  I am also an architect and this topic is of particular interest to me.  Did you get anywhere with what you were looking for?

Continuos terrain altimetry from contours? not in Vue, at least currently. The only programs I know that can handle this vital task are GIS programs.

GIMP 2.7.4, Inkscape 0.48, Genetica 3.6 Basic, FilterForge 3 Professional, Blender 2.61, SketchUp 8, PoserPro 2012, Vue 10 Infinite, World Machine 2.3, GeoControl 2
