Subject: HELP: Poser Characters import; not coming out like you see them in Poser?

Asuyuka ( ) posted Wed, 23 February 2011 at 2:07 PM · edited Mon, 18 November 2024 at 11:56 PM

I got Vue 8 Frontier over last week, and am trying to use the Poser import with it.

However, importing a character usually has various things just... off.  Hair is tilted and really, really wrong, half of the mesh for a dress is turned the wrong direction, etc.

Is there a way to fix this, or am I just stuck?

The reason why nobody has responded could be that most of us don't know much about Frontier.

Just to see whats going on: Try exporting to Collada. Try importing to DAZ Studio if you have that, and then export to Collada from there.
If Frontier can import OBJ, try that too. Textures may need tweaking, but it's otherwise very predictable.
Try different settings in the Poser import dialogue.
Of course and ideally the import should work without problems, but odd things do happen in the world of computers.
Maybe contact E-on to learn if it's a "known issue" or should be one.

You could also make sure your Poser stuff in general isn't compressed, Vue doesn't like compressed poser files. Run the uncompress script inside Poser and be sure to tick the "delete compressed files" or something like that so you don't have duplicates.

I thought the module would be the same, regarding of version, so even if it was Frontier, without all the fancy features, the programming would be the same. =/

Yeah, I've tried it uncompressed, and the only way to import it so it looks 'right' is doing it with the Poser Shader Tree box is checked, which then kills my machine with V4 (but Jessi and Jessi G2 load nicely, at least.)

Just frustrating, really. =/

(Frontier can only import/export Poser formats, and DAZ COLLADA, so maybe it'd be worth a shot from there.)

I am doing the same, maybe picked up the same magazine ;-)

Via Daz, I am using the Collada Export (not Daz Collada) and I get real close.  I typically use DS, but last night I tried export from Daz to OBJ, import to Poser 7 and save as scene (pz3) to import into Vue (yea, I know, right)...and it had problems.

Some of the textures are a little "not right".  See the problems on the Fighting Fae Armor, some of the textures are twisted or something, see the white areas on 'em

Maybe we did ;) ; this is the one I was having issues with.  Straight Poser-file import here, no other editing except moving her up to be above ground.

Have you tried something else to eliminate this particular outfit?

Quote - this is the one I was having issues with.

Do you mean you are having issues with the Fighting Fae Armor, as well?  If so I could try another character/armor real quick.

Be amazed that we just happened to get the same software, from the same magazine and try to render the exact same armor object, and post on the same site about it.  hmmmm...

. Sorry, I had a picture to attach, got sidetracked while waiting, and it failed to attach.  Uploading a couple pics to ImageShack, will have it shortly XD;; ^^;;

Edit:

Here are the pics.  First one is with the Poser Shader Tree unchecked:

And this one, with the Shader Tree checked (but it took forever to position):

Bad lighting on the second, but same default sky XD;

Second one looks good!

Looks like you got it, I have a couple of posts elsewhere to see if someone knows the collada issue?

I am wondering if the second one time is due to the large texture maps.  Reading through this link may help.  I am trying to digest it...

Version 8 of Vue had all kinds of issues with importing PZ3 files.

Good to know...I think ;-)

Ends up my problem was that the materials were incorrectly assigned in the collada import, or incorrectly exported from DS.  If  re-loaded te texture in Vue, it worked fine.

Not sure how to examine the collada export file to see if the material assignment was munged on export though.

I have Vue 7 and have never been successful at importing Poser figures with true Poser quality.  My work around has been bill boards ensuring that the light sources of the Poser figure matches that of the Vue lighting or vice versa, then everything looks pretty good and bill boarding really cuts down on the rendering time.  Just a thought.  Jan
