Subject: looking for a Clouds HDRI

I need one, about 15,000 feet, mid morning - day, if possible no or very little ground. it's for a WW2 dogfight, which were fought high up, so all the ones I'm finding with ground in are useless...

No idea if these guys have what you want, but they do offer a decent amount of high quality freebies.

thanks but I've already looked at them.. problem is, to low down. using those, the dogfight would be on the 'deck and most pilots try to avoid that.

We are assuming that you are going to use a skydome in your scene.

only just. it's just been added to Pose2Lux...

even without a dome, I'd need the HDRI for the lighting anyway...

I found this with a quick Google adventure. PictureNaut is a free HDRI program/utility that does a lot of things. It can open and convert from and to, *.PFM, *.HDR, *.EXR, and 2 different HDRI *.TIFF formats. For the price, it seems to be a good deal.

I'm not really trying to sell DAZ products, but those are the only cloady skys I have recently seen in an HDRI format. There are probably other programs that can open/convert EXR files.

I was hoping that others would offer suggestions for other sources of sky pictures.

Give me some more details and I can create what you want in lightwave.

What kind of clouds, resolution, angular or spherical?

 Would be late tonight before I could get to it though.

needs to go on BB's envirosphere.. other than that.. ever seen the movie "Battle of Britain" ?

thats the kind of sky I need. since I'll be using Poser > Luxrender shaders won't work, (and reality uses a different file format to Pose2Lux), I just need a Image I can use...

So you want somthing from within or just above the clouds correct?

I'll do a couple different ones and let you see what I've got.

It will be tonight before I can really dig into it though.

I dont know how well these will work as a light source using idl but they can still be great sky backgrounds.

I thought they were free. Sorry about that. The first image I clicked onto didn't have the watermark on it like the others. Plus the site I found linked to that one said they were free. Thats what I get for not paying closer attention.

Here's what I came up with.

First image is a render with camera focal to 20mm to get a bit more depth.

Second image is with the envsphere ytran at 700 and camera focal to 25mm.

Here's what the hdr looks like in sphereical format.

The zip is called Skymaps in my file locker. Size is 9mb.

Included is a .hdr in sphereical format at 3072x1536.

The same image in .jpg and an angular format for creating an ibl in .jpg.

Just for the hell of it I did a quick render to see how well it would work as a light source with idl and the envsphere. Not even a specular light, just the map.

I forgot to add that with the envsphere the gamma should be set to 1 in and 2.2 out.
