THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: does bryce 7.1 by default autosave

ddaydreams ( ) posted Thu, 03 March 2011 at 9:14 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 12:48 PM

does bryce 7.1 by defualt autosave?

I ask because the render i'm doing is 3 days so far at 56% If if the power goes out, has bryce been saving?

If so how often does it auto by default?

I have never seen any occurance of Bryce "autosaving", so I doubt it.

I live in a part of the country that experiences many severe thunderstorms a year and often the power goes out and everything stops even just for a seconds long power fluctuation.

I have my computer plugged into a battery backup called a Universal Power Supply that takes the load when the power is interrupted suddenly and everything stays working for some certain minute duration(depending on the unit) until the power comes back. The more expensive units have longer minute or perecentage of hour durations and last longer in those blackouts - but unless you have a whole house emergency generator, you will lose your renders that last over the time your UPS will stay working.

At the minimum, depending on your budget, I would suggest to at least get a UPS to help mitigate the problem.

Sorry for the long answer when a "probably not" would have sufficed!

No autosave in Bryce. I've never done a render anywhere near that long, but if it was me, I would stop it, save the partial render, & then resume it.

I'm afraid it doesn't autosave. I wish it did.

We are constantly telling folks to do regular saves as they work. Bryce will save incrementaly. That is, if you title your work Bryce 01.br? for example, then save-as, the title will auto to Bryce 02.br? and so on.

Can you interrupt "render to disk" and do a save then resume?  I didn't think you could do that.

I'll try out some of this advise on my next render.

right now I'm afraid to touch it.

Bryce doenst have autosave. Also you cannot interrupt and resume a render to disk.

In my experience its best to just let things run their course, however long it takes..

Most my multi-day renders survived without any hickups, luckily bryce is pretty stable.

No auto save, but it is on the list of wants and being implemented, kinda like resume a render of an animation OYE! I've had animations take a month to render sometimes you wanna do something else on the puter and be able to pause that process LOL!

Do atleast one thing a day that scares the hell outta ya!!

The render made it to completion.

Yes auto save would be good.

I had set the prioirty to mid level.

So I has enough resouces to do the other stuff, such as run my business and edit some photos.

Fortunatly nothing bad happened that would require a system restart.

thanks for your replies all.

Autosave!!!  Oh I do so WISH it did!  I spent just hours yesterday creating a lion's body with metaballs - and lost the whole thing because

a) Bryce doesn't autosave, at all!

b) Bryce doesn't give you the opportunity to save before the crash is total, and

c) Bryce randomly crashes when you go to choose a texture image for a material - just when it feels like it!

Grrrrrrr!!!!!!!! WAIL!

Fran, you need to keep texture sizes to a minimum. I had the same problem recently.

Chris,

I hadn't even chosen the texture!

By the way, do you have the render line suddenly vanishing and then reappearing - creaping down a bit and then disappearing again and... so on and so forth?

Plus I find that if I am making any kind of movements, either the camera, or adjusting the size of a model... and when I get to the bit where I'm making teany tiny adjustments - suddenly the screen goes a ghostly white, and Bryce freezes... before (usually) unfreezing and letting me continue... (sometimes it just crashes.)

Do you get either of those with Bryce7.1?

It's when you have the left mouse click down and you're moving the mouse microscopic amounts to change something in Bryce, like moving something a tiny amount, finishing off a movement that might have been big but you are now getting the position just right so the movements are tiny.

Anybody?

If I'm beingthat fussy about position I always do it by imputing the dimension I want. Bryce 7 goes to 3 decimal places now.

Yes, but how do you figure out which direction X is, just by looking at the view???

(Apart from trial and error.)

You can't.
