Subject: Looking for Race Crew Headset & Bucket Seat for Race Car...

Glen ( ) posted Sun, 06 March 2011 at 1:37 PM · edited Fri, 13 December 2024 at 3:53 AM

Hello folks!

After receiving much great help with my last question, (thankyou very much, everyone!) I'm hoping perhaps someone could point me in the right direction here, please?

Basically, I'm looking for a headset, to use on Michael 4, like this:  http://www.autotel.co.uk/index.php?main_page=popup_image&pID=94 The kind of thing they might use in a British Touring Car or GT pit garage. Also, I have a couple of nice, racey looking cars, but they have street interiors to them. I'm wondering if there's a bucket seat around anywhere, that anyone knows of? If it's attached to a car, but can be removed and placed into one of the ones I have, then it's all good, I just need that seat, lol!

What I'm hoping to do is use some of the props I have, plus some of my own, and make a pit garage scene. I think I've got enough to make a basic scene, but I want it to be busy and detailed, so I'm looking for stuff like this, as well as extinguishers, tool racks, jacks, laptops and all that. I haven't searched for those yet, so I'll go do that now, but if anyone can help with the seat/headsets, I'd be extremely grateful!

Many thanks!

All the best,

Glen.

N.B. I have no way of sending money online, so anything free would be best, please! :)

On the headset, do you need the 'walkie-talkie' as well? cuz the cord between both would most like need some kind of rigging. I could make the headset pretty easily tho.

As for a laptop, I have one in my freebies, it needs scaled and stuff, as I mad it at the beginning of my modeling career and didn't know what all I was doing. I'm pretty sure there's another free one also you can check out.

If you google most of that stuff, I bet a lot will show up, just add 'free 3D model' to your search string and it'll help out.

Here's on kind of headset in the freebies here:

http://market.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/details.php?item_id=34737

There's also a fire extinguisher at Daz:

http://www.daz3d.com/i/3d-models/-/fire-extinguisher?item=9143&_m=d

...and it's cheaper than the one at the 'squid' lol

But if you do a little more searching than I have, you may find more.

Hey, thanks for the reply!

I wouldn't need the cord, as I can add that with vectors in Photoshop, but the headset and com unit would be ideal. That headset right there looks ok, but it's a little bit sci-fi really. If I can find anything else, I'd prefer it. I mean, I can make things invisible in the material room, if needs be, so that's not a problem. I have a Corvette racer here, which is all in one piece, but I've managed to add a trans map to the cockpit and isolate the seat. It's a bit low-poly, but I guess I could smooth it out in Shop, possibly. I could also do the same for the wheel too.

Your laptop looks pretty swish, I must say! Also, I see you're a bit of an Iron Man nut too? shakes hand Nice one!

I'm going to look a bit more, see if I can find anything else. I'm wondering how easy it would be to take an object from AC3D and make it usable in Poser... I'm quite active on a game called Farming Simulator. I've made a few odds and ends and I'm sure I can find a fire extinguisher there, in fact, I know of two, off the top of my head! I'll look around for a tut. I'm not too bad in AC, so I guess I could even make a few bits, but I know that any attempt at a headset would take me months, if I even managed it, lol!

Thankyou very much for the laptop, that'll be a fantastic help to me! Also, thankyou kindly for your offer of a headset. If it's not too much trouble, it would be a Godsend! If I can get stuff transferred from AC easily enough, I'll have a go at making a load of stuff myself. What I do know is that I've had a lot of problems with textures working out, through the various import/export methods needed to convert AC files to .i3d (used by the farming game) so I hope I don't encounter any of those... I've not got much hair left as it is, I'll be pulling teeth next! lol!

Many thanks!

Glen.

[EDIT]

Your posable rope looks interesting, for pipe lines and possibly even a cord to the com unit... I'll take a look at that too in a bit, thankyou very much! :D

Ya know, I forgot all about that. Yeah, it should do quite well as a cord :o)

I'll see what I can do about making the com unit and headset. Might take me a few days (if you want quality), or I could do a quick slap job, but I'm not guarenteeing it'll be pretty lol

I don't mind how long you take fella, I'm not about to rush you into making something for me, when I'm giving you nothing in return, so don't put yourself out! If it's possible, do you think you could make the texture mats for the outer shell customizable, please? If not, it's really not important, just thinking of colour schemes for teamware, lol. Thankyou so much for this, I'm very, very grateful to you!

Benney, that's an excellent model you have there, I must say! Although, the seat itself is probably not quite what I'm looking for, it's still a great model, as a whole! I may use this in another kind of garage, at some point. I've never really followed sprint cars, so I'm not sure what their garage areas look like, but I've a feeling they'll be an open yard area, with gazebo's or something, which could be interesting to work on! The main reason I'm sure I'll fail with making one in AC is all those curvy bits! What I might do, if it's ok with you, of course, is take that seat and cut off the side pieces and try to construct new sides... I'm probably getting incredibly ahead of myself with that, but I guess I could give it a shot! As I said, if you're ok with it, but if not, it's totally fine, I'll find something, lol! I'm much better at making crude structures. By crude, I mean things like fences, steel frame sheds, like grain stores and stuff like that. A guy asked me why I didn't make vehicles and implements, well, the real reason is that I'm not so good with getting well-known shapes looking right. A structure can look like anything you want it to! If I can, I may upload my grain store to the free section, but I'll have to work out how to get it in Poser...

Many thanks for all your help guys, much appreciated!

This is for your own personal pics or whatever right? You're not going to be redistributing anything you modify, so, in general with free and bought models alike, you can modify them any way you want for personal use.

I won't be re-distributing any files, no. I will, hopefully, be putting my artwork up though, if I get that far, lol! XD I just found a Lamborghini Murcielago model which is terrifyingly detailed... It's a static model, but has around 200-odd mat sections on it. I only wanted the roll cage and seat to be visible, so I've spent all this time making all the rest transparent, now I have a headache, lol! I mean, I like detail as much as the next guy, but stone the crows, loool! I think every single face on every button, every facet on every nut & bolt and every bit of tread on all four tyres had a seperate mat section! :O system overloads :p

All done now though, and it looks like I've got a ruddy nice looking seat and (hopefully) a rollcage that fits snugly! :p

Yeah I know what you mean.. Which is why I try my best at keeping eveything as limited possuible with regards to polys and mats. If you would like a specific car model built (or even a custom car) I would be quiet happy to give it a go. All you would really need is a god set of 3 view plans a nice selection of reference photos or drawings. Though, like everything else it will take time but you will be noted of progress and at the same time you can place your preferences through out the build, even to the point of creating a custom car and paint job.

I leave it down to you.

Good man, that'd be epic! You've got me rather excited now! I'm a massive BTCC fan, and love the Chevy Cruze (mainly because Jason Plato won in it...) ;) I've been looking for some good models that could be converted to touring cars and the like... Hey, how about you make the cars and I'll make the garages? :p That sounds like a plan, Batman! :D

Well, thankyou for your help so far, you've been great! I've finished isolating that seat from the Lambo, I parented it to the Lotus and it looks rather stonking, if I may say so. I'll try to upload a raw render of it...

I would love to see what you have developed in the raw render... sounds cool.

Meanwhile just grab some photo refences and a good 3view of the car base and email them to me via ib-creations@ntlworld.com and I will start getting things layed out at this end for production to begin.

Great, thankyou so much! Well, what I could do is contact the team, as they're only based up the road from me, in Wellingborough. Maybe, if they're feeling really nice, they could send us some spec sheets or drawings, you never know! :)

I just put one half of the roll cage in the Lotus and it looks great! Baring in mind I'm only using the primitive cylinder in Poser, I reckon I've done a great job so far, I'm extremely pleased at how well it's turned out! I was worried that the cage would interfere with the seat, as I'd had to remove it, due to lag, but it's fine. Well happy! I'll upload more pics when the whole cage is done.

Thanks a million for your offer Benney, this could prove to be quite a grand experience! :D

The image you uploaded looks like a fine display of exactly what poser can do whith a little hard work though I tend to be a Carrara man myself and use poser for acessing exertnal 3rd party goodies which tend to come in handy now and again for filling up the background of a scene... I prefer making everything from scratch myself.

Once you have your bits together, email them to me and I will see what I can do for you.

Thankyou! Well, I made the cage now and I must say, she's looking sexy as Hell! ^_^ Now, I've applied ray tracing reflections to the whole car here, I'm wondering why it's giving me this effect, like it's airbrushed? I like the effect, but it'd also be nice to see the reflections of the world around the car too. This effect would look good when I want a more artsy render, but for realism, I'd like proper reflections. I did exactly what I used to do in P6, but the outcome is different.

I'm thinking I might look for some dynamic cloth tutorials and see if I can make a set of belts, or would that be pushing it? Possibly a window net too, if I can.

A small request here, on top of the others: Does anyone know of a set of overalls for M4, which I can use as a racing/crew suit, please? I swore I had a set for the default P4 male, and was going to make everything but his head invisible, so I didn't get poke through, but I seem to have lost it, unfortunately.

Many thanks!

P.S. I'll get on to the team this week and see what they say, thankyou very much!

I think the air brush look is due to the ambient lighting. You should really try hdri lighting (I'm not quiet sure if poser can utilize this) because the lighting will be a lot sharper and show nice clean crispy reflections on the body shell.

Benney, sorry, I didn't spot your reply there, I do apologize! blushes I've never heard of the term before, but I'll get hunting, thankyou!

I've just made my first tool storage unit, and it looks stonking, I'm very pleased! Now, I'm wondering how I should go about making it posable, so as the drawers can be opened & closed, so I'll get trawling around for that info. I plan on having a few different configurations of this unit, with different drawer sizes and so on. I might make a wider one too. Oh, also, as well as the drawers, I want to place posable (rotating) casters on the units too, which could be interesting... ;)

P.S. I picked DeWalt, not because it was black & yellow, but because it isn't Snap-On... It wasn't until I found the logo that I realized what a great sponsor it would be for the team, lol!

As I'm typing this, I'm waiting for it to render... It seems like my raytracing is working on my little unit, it's looking excitingly good, yaaaay! :D

That looks like it'll do the job, thankyou! It's not perfect, but it's free, and it looks fairly low poly, so, if BionicRooster hasn't had chance to make the other headset in a couple of days, I can use that for some test renders and whatnot.

Well, here's a render of the first cabinet I've made. Since this was rendered, I've added casters to it and exported everything that moves as separate OBJ files, so I can hopefully pose them in Poser. Right now, the Lotus is being rendered next to a row of them, with raytracing all seeming to work fine. It's a fairly large render, with max settings, so it's taking an absolute age, (1/2 hour so far, and only done around 1/4 of the image...) When that's rendered, I'll plop it in here for you guys to see the kind of style I'm going for. You never know, by then, I might even have two or three more variations on the cabinet, lol!

Speaking of which, here's a shot of what it all looks like so far, what does everyone think? Also, I'm wondering why the partition screens are so fuzzy, anyone got any clues? :/ Apart from that, I'm very pleased with how it's looking. I've called the team Webb Motorsport, and played on the name "Webb" by adding a spider web design to the branding. Note the casters on the units too, which I'd eventually like to have as individually posable on each unit.

Thankyou very much! I've had a long period of not working on 3D stuff, but I'm back on it now. Hence, another render for you! I decided to play with a spotlight for this one, and, as you may have noticed, Victoria 4! I made a grid girl character, using the J-Suit, with custom textures, Ashley Blue V4 textures and shoes, Christine Hair and a custom made marker pole, with my name on, lol! (Vain, I know!)

I'm now on the marshalling scene in the UK, which means I could, possibly, find myself seeing all kinds of pit clutter. This can only be a good thing, as, although marshals aren't allowed to take photos, I could still remember things I've seen, then start work, adding them to my garage scene! I just can't wait for the Swidhelm Raceway to arrive, as I think Rachel will look utterly gorgeous, along with a few other grid girl friends, on a grid full of Lotus Exiges, for a cup-style race!

I'm still in need of some props, though, before that can happen. I'll keep looking and, hopefully, find something I can use! ;)
