Subject: "Hail to the king!" Best items to make my own Duke Nukem?

mr_Holger ( ) posted Fri, 04 February 2011 at 5:01 AM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 9:45 PM

Hello,

I am a over 40 years old madman, that has followed the good old Duke Nukum from Shrapnel City to 3D. I respect him, he has so often saved the world!

and now he will be back - with "Duke Nukem Forever". And that's why I would like to make my own tribute image to him. with Poser.

but I your need assitance. if you would like to make a "Duke Nukem Forver" lookalike character, what items would you use for it?

Michael 4 of course, or even better Apollo? and what settings would you reccomend for having that body of the Duke? and, very important: could anyone make a facemorph to get the face of the Duke?

what hair is similar to the Dukes one?

what clothing could be used best? the special belt buckle is surely not available, but a similar belt? and is there a bandolier for the duke? red shirt with worn texture? the leathergloves?and shoes? I can't find any preview image of him with shoes...

only the gun is not really an issue. there are a lot of similar guns - but maybe any specialist knows the type the Duke is using?

okay, maybe here are some friends and companions of the good ole Duke. he is a citizen o the USA, as far as I know. so maybe some of you guys can help me.

best wishes

Holger

Content Advisory! This message contains profanity

I'm too a fan of ol' Duke, having played him since version 1.0 ... sigh that brings back memories... If you're going to morph the face, use Simon G2 if you've got it... give him a more square jawline. As for the body, you might want to use the bodybuilder profile with more exaggerated muscularity and a square top Marine type crewcut in blond for the hair.

I can't belive that Duke will be back out... 🤤 Don't want to play the sbox box but my computer would do just fine... Yall won't find me til the end of the year, as I'll be in front of my computer playing that d*mmed game again... LOL

ah...much better...;)

I think there's actually a crew cut for Maya Dude that would 'work', at studio Maya. Texture it blond.

Any number of sunglasses out there, 'wife-beaters' or T's, Bossy boots, and some

sorta pants, Porsimo's got some good weapons...

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

Dale B ( ) posted Sat, 05 February 2011 at 5:14 AM

Aaaaah........Duke lives. And since distribution will be through Rockstar's ageis, we don't have to worry about it being sanitized for the masses. And Jon StJohns is once again the voice of the Duke.... What I really hope is that the Unreal tech isn't too customized; I had about half of the place I worked mapped into a level for the original Duke, and would really like to start that project up again. Just something so....cathartic....about blowing up and trashing the place you work, you know.....?

mr_Holger ( ) posted Sat, 05 February 2011 at 6:49 AM

I see. While I try to make my own Duke-Image with Poser are you guy already able to make your own workplace-level for the new game... great... "You've got balls of steel!"

Dale B ( ) posted Sat, 05 February 2011 at 4:29 PM

No, I just have done some level making with unreal tech, and having a drafting background, can do a quicky laser measure of the bloody store (if I can't get my hands on the actual blueprints again....) and let my fetid imagination run rampant. Hey, its Duke. Rude, crude, and lewd. And balls of steel are very uncomfortable in cold weather....they attract far too much static electricity...... =8O...

Can't remember which issue it was in. But in 3d Artist magazine the artist Kurt Miller describes how he took a poser figure and created this image. Link is about the image and you might be able to get more details there.

Obviously for your request, some of that stuff in the tutorial might not be relevant. So for bits...

Belt and gun - something from uzlite.
Boots - convert the army boots from EDW's jumpsuit.

Pouches and big bullets - any of panko's webbing sets.
Bandoliers - RNDA's combat girls.

Glasses from freestuff.
Creepy crawlys in the image here Tentacle-Z by By Poisen.

Finally for the T-shirt and jeans I'd make a 2nd skin using a good resource kit.

Yippii kay yay!

the moment I saw this image, I deleted my own Duke project. fully equal what I could ever create, I will never reach this  stae of perfectness. SO great. done with Poser? cannot belive.

okay, I will try something for myself, but this will be my light in any darkness. thank you for the link and the image and the information!

just to tell it to someone: I already have preordered the balls-of-steel-edition of the game. my wife will kill me, I know it, but to have this staue of the duke on my desk will  compensate me for all of that pain. "my gun is bigger than yours."

mrsparky ( ) posted Fri, 18 March 2011 at 9:08 AM

Cool! - especially the statue :)

BTW found the mag out - it's issue 6 and while obviously I can't reproduce the whole thing here . it does  say he used David,  magnets, force fields, waves and morphs on the head.

I also found out tha tit is issue 6, there is a comment under the image saying this. but I could not find the magazine or the article anywhere. could you please tell me where I can read the whole article?

for myself, I tend to use the Last Gladiator for M4 and F4 for the duke itself and the flat top hair from the same artist. In my mind, this face is the true one of the Duke, now, after 14 years waiting for a new job. I understand, that they had to polish up the Duke a little bit for all that the cameras and journalists and for the promo-journeys around the world. but after he has removed the make-up at home in the evening, he looks exactly that way the Last Gladiator shows.

I really wish, someone would do the Duke Nukems belt for use in Poser (and much more I wish, they had ncluded such belt in the balls-of-steel-package)!

Did find a link to KMI studios blog, but thats dead, so I say..

Try getting a back issue from the link above.

Asking KMI studio about it.

Like it. I'm always reminded of a photo with sketch in a 2000AD/Dredd annual which showed stallone as old Joe.  Nearly every fan I know oh yes, thats Joe, but it'll never happen. Then years later he's the lead!

Dunno about the statue, but if you have P8 you might try ripping out the belt on the  jetpack and modifying that. Those it's not a confomer.

Bandoliers - I have the combat girls set but the bullets are just drawn on I seem to remember, so don't look right from all angles.

Panko has a proper bandolier in one of his sets.

I saw a flat top hair - aha it was the mullet hair by neftis which I think is at DAZ.

Also DAZ has an older flat top hair - I think it was for M3 and it looks a bit like that one in your pic.

Duke Nukem, lol, great idea for a Poser project!  The only version I can remember playing was Nukem' 64 for the Nintendo 64. It was great fun. I especially liked being able to set up the trip wire mines and then later in the distance hear them go off.

A newly released and very nice hair, including flat top, for M4 is here:

http://www.daz3d.com/i/3d-models/0/real-men-hair?item=12269&cat=&_m=d

If you look a the promo image showing th eflat top in combination with the "real man" character by the same artist, you think, you see the duke itself, now, after 14 years are gone since the DN 3D-game.

where can i find the "combat girls"?

search here had no such results.

Runtime DNA.

Pankos stuff is here (RMP) if the combat girls are MIA.
